I don't know, but his senior year UT, he and Major Applewhite had issues because Major apparently stole his girlfriend or something along those lines (from an interview in Rolling Stone, I think).

Social Anxiety Disorder is really rough on people. I can't imagine how difficult it must be on someone who has to have that much spotlight.

It would probably be the equivalent of someone with a fear of flying being strapped to the wing of a 747 on a 12-hour flight through rough weather.

No, but did anyone hear that some gay magazine editor outed a major league baseball player today for being his gay lover? I think I have that right, but I'm not sure... I tuned in right at the end of the discussion. I think I heard something about a player (outfielder?) that plays for Baltimore and has big sideburns or something.

Oh well. Can't wait to see what kind of uproar this may cause.

I find it funny that the suggestion that there may be gays in sports is met with such incredible disdain. I mean, attractive, athletic men in uniforms???!!!! C'mon! That's an open invitation!

I heard them talk about this on the Rome show.

Some editor of a gay magazine called "Out" wrote about how he used to date a baseball player on the east coast. He said the guy wasn't a superstar or anything, but someone who's name you'd recognize. It was basically a plea to the baseball player to come out, he thought the player would be happier if he came out, and he wouldn't be harassed by most of his teammates with the exception of an occasional jackass.

I think the editor thought he'd just write a story that would cause people on national radio shows to rant about it attracting listeners into buying the mag.

I feel for Ricky... some people just have a harder time dealing with life and social situations than others. It may be bad brain chemistry; I don't know. I'm surprised he admitted this to the media but maybe he hopes everyone will be on his side. It can't be easy being in the spotlight like that, and feeling like you could break down with the world watching.

I remember a pep rally at UT a few years ago. Most of the players were all pumped up and gave "pep talk" speeches or told Aggie-sheep jokes. Everyone really wanted to see Ricky, who got up there and only said one sentence. I figured he wasn't into public speaking.

And as for gay athletes, as my best friend in high school said: "Football is nothing more than a bunch of guys in spandex pants jumping on top of each other."
