Sam Cassell and Robert Horry, two players drafted by the Rockets all made possible because of the great Rudy T. Without these two, there would be no 94 WCF, no winning game 3 in New York, not winning a championship in 94. There also would be no 15 game winning streak in 93 (twice), there would be no 95 WCF, there would be no winning game 1 of WCF in San Antonio so no Double Clutch. I can go on and on about these two, how great it is we drafted them and how sweet it is to see that these two Houston products are among the greatest players of the last decade. Maybe Tinman can provide some old Chronicle articles to bring us back which could help you with the following dilemma: Morey wants to fill the last spot with either one and both would be willing to retire with the Rockets. Who would you pick and why ? Personally I would like to have Cassell over Horry for a few reasons: 1) He has proved he can still play on a high level in the play-offs last year which Horry has not. 2) Cassell has been with the Celtics this year so is definetly in shape, cannot be really sure about Horry. Cassell also had some nice 20+ and even 30+ scoring last year. 3) Our PGs, mainly because of Brooks since there's always a chance Rafer will get injured and I don't like the idea of a Brooks / Brent Barry PG rotation (Tracy at PG is out of the question). Then there's the streakiness of both players, again especially AB who has shown when his shooting his off it affects his whole game. Cassell brings veteran leadership at the PG spot and will definetly come in handy coming play-off time or when AB is really stinking it up. 4) Personality wise I like Sam more because he knows he's a good player, is always competitive and loves the physical play whereas Horry has shown one of the worst flops in NBA history (you all know which one I'm talking about )
i love them but they're done. no need to be forced to play them and take minutes from our young guns.
Ah, come on, you're supposed to be Rockets fans !!!!! I personally am a Ajax (football /soccer) fan and recently a guy in the late 30s came out of retirement to play for a team where he started. He decided after a few years after retiring to play again because he played well in another guy's retirement game. That's a game where players from all the teams a guy has played for play against the current team the guy last played for; in the first half he plays with old teammates mixed together, the 2nd half he plays with his last team. The guy was known for his speed and even at 35 blew past defenders. He became big with Ajax, so best believe fans even wanted that guy to play with the team, even if it's just for a few more games. I'm not saying if you do not want Horry / Cassell to play one more year and retire here, you're not a Rockets fan but show some loyalty fellas Another reason could be simply because they're veterans in this league and you have to respect that regardless. That's why signing Mutombo is a no-brainer. If a guy who has been in this league for so long, has been loyal to every organisation he's been on and just a great human you respect that and you sign him !! Truth is, Cassell can still play, I don't care what people believe. So even more reason to just give the 15th spot to the Sam I am he is. However, I do not think Cassell wants to come back here so if that's clearly the case I do not want him back either. Does any1 know if he expressed thoughts about returning to the Rockets in recent years ? Horry did express he wanted to play for the Rockets so it would be great in my opinion, if we could bring back either one of em.
Cassell > Alston Horry > Barry I would cry tears of joy if they came home, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
If we trade Brooks/Landry in a package for Vince Carter, then we need another PG/F oh both of them > Luther Head
If we trade for Vince Carter, could we beat Phoenix in an imaginary "Imagine if they were all 25" game?
I voted for neither. reasons? 1. sam is done, no question ask. his passing skill isn't any better then alston. socring - na! 2. Bob- he may be useful to us when we needed a clutch 3pt shooter. however, given the way we are going, i doubt we even need him as we will not be making out of the first round.
I think they are both finished. They both looked bad when they played last year. I wouldn't mind bringing Sam back though. He will always have that midrange jumper, after all.
Well ... close the thread!!! Cassell was traded to the Kings. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3913518
