Shaq's Latest Comments on the Feud with Kobe

Discussion in 'NBA Dish' started by cjstukenholtz, Feb 1, 2009.

?

Do you believe the latest coments Shaq is saying here on the Stephen A. Smith Show?

  1. Yes, in his mind, the championship rings he got while teaming with Kobe outweigh the feud itself.

  2. No, he is just being an idiot.

This was on the Stephen A. Smith show. This is now just a couple of weeks ahead of All-Star Weekend since Shaq was named as one of the West All-Star reserves. Thankfully, it is on YouTube already, and here are the links.

Also, here's a link to a thread on Lakersground.net concerning Shaq and Kobe playing together one more time, which is the upcoming All-Star Game.

    http://forums.lakersground.net/viewtopic.php?t=80248

Also, here's a link to my previous thread concerning that feud involving Shaq and Kobe.

My final thought on Shaq's comments is that I think he's contradicting himself when he says it's just the news media hyping it up and saying it is all about marketing when you see this video clip on YouTube. I think that when you see it, you'll think that he's just doing his own thing to hype it up.

OTOH, I can see the other side of things when he talks about having won those three championships while teaming with Kobe. However, I think his IQ is screwed up when he says that his duo with Kobe was the greatest big-man/little-man to ever play the game. I say what about Jerry West/Wilt Chamberlin or Magic Johnson/Kareem Abdual Jabbar?

Judging by his reactions to Stephen A. Smiths questions, he seems pretty peeved by the guy.

I never liked Stephen A. so I can understand where he's coming from, the guy is pretty annoying

    quite, frandly, me neither.

actually, i think Shaq is not too far off with his assessment.

i'd remove the logo/Wilt duo, as at that time of his career, Wilt (way pass his prime) was only a supporting cast member contend w being a rebounder / defender. I'd replace that du w the Bill Russell / Havlicek who together won 3 or more rings, just like Magic / Kareem and Shaq / Kobe.

I just think it´s funny that Shaq answers

"IF you and kobe had stayed together.......?"
"We would have won 6 or 7 easily...."

    But then just seconds later...
"IF you were still a Laker right now, what would that have done for you that isn´t being done right now?"

"Long time ago yada yada yada.....I don´t believe in IF´S. IF´s don´t exist"

How many of us were actually around to witness those other duos though? I watched Shaq and Kobe on a regular basis and it's hard for me to imagine two other players with similar styles being much better. The unstoppable force and the immovable object both on the same team.

That's silly, but it's no surprise. Shaq's ego is as big as he is, and he would say that himself duoing with any guard is the best ever. No big/little guard has been better than Magic/Kareem. And I would even say that Hakeem/Drexler was better than Shaq/Kobe.

Shaq's self-proclaim MDE is as conceited as this.

I think Shaq/Kobe was the best because of where they were in their career.

Well that isn't far from the truth because Hakeem was better than Shaq ever in his prime especially on the defensive court.

And Drexler was fine add to the duo but he isn't better than Kobe though.

Kobe had some mad hoops then and still has those now.

So maybe Shaq/Kobe duo has an advantage but it was over hyped by the media too much.

He contradicts himself more than any player I've ever seen. But we keep listening to him because he is entertaining. Too bad he seems to have forgotten he played with Wade who did more for him than Kobe ever did. I seem to remember Wade literally winning a Championship all by himself (the refs helped more than his team mates) while Shaq watched.
