I'm all in favor of hiring new doctors and trainers for the team... They are in my opinion the reason our players come back too soon and mess up their bodies. They are also responsible for keeping our players healthy and so far have failed in my opinion. It's a stretch to say it's entirely their fault, but they ultimately need to be monitoring these things better and preventing problems before they happen. We need trainers and docs who know these players' bodies better than the players. This injury ticker at the chronicle is a prime result. How many team out there has an injury ticker at their local paper, counting injuries? How many teams have chronically injured players? Stars for that matter. Something stinks and it's the medical and training staff. I may be wrong about this completely, so please correct me. But I would like people to discuss this issue. If we don't fire them, what can they do to better prevent injuries and diagnos treatment. Because the treatment of t-mac to play through pain just doesn't add up. Is management forcing them to say this? Playing through pain can cause injuries to get worse.
When Yao had his toe infection thing that wasn't discovered earlier, I was like, Ok just an exeption. Then Yao had that stress fracture thing that wasn't discovered earlier, I thought, well, this could happen to anybody. Then Tmac had his knee issues, I thought, okay one more strike and you are out. Now Dorsey has his issue... I am not in the sports medical field but I have been following the rockets since 2002. But If Tmac and Yao's health is my investment, I would have fired my investment advisor by now.
keith jones was the usa olympic basketball team's trainer. a lot of team doctors and trainers for other teams have gone through the same problems. what was worse was the cleveland browns incident when like ten of their players got staph infection. as per tmac's injury. it's not the trainer's fault mac completely disregarded the rehab process during the offseason. ok, i may be exaggerating with the "completely" part, but he should have been rehabbing as hard as he could which he did not. he was too busy screwing around doing espn and adidas commercials.
Obviously you don't know much about medicine. There is limitation to what doctors and diagnosis they can do. One of the best way to prevent injury is rest well, but with 82 season games and constant back to back games, it's not easy for NBA players to get good rest. Injuries are not doctor's fault nor player's fault. Injury is just part of NBA games.
So the question is. Is keith jones overrated? He is good enough to be picked for the USA team, but on this team he appears to be the cataylst for all injuries. Maybe Keith jones is doing just fine, perhaps the other medical staff sucks.
The Medical Staff consists of more than one person. SO I don't know how people being critical of the Medical Staff turned into a thread about one person. I brought this up in a earlier thread. I'm not blaming anyone in particular, but I find it amazing that there is so much negativity about T-Mac not listening to our Team Doctors when our entire team has had injury problems for the last 6 years. Francis has barley played in two seasons, because he was allowed to return to early last season. Dorsey is injury without even playing. There is alot of blame to go around, but everyone here seems to alwasy bring it back to T-mac.
Or maybe we have an injury prone team. Yao is 7' 6, most NBA center that size have injury issues. Plus Yao plays year round with his national team committments, it's well within expectation that his body would start breaking down at some point. I'd be more suprised if he didn't have injury issues. Tracy has always had injury issues. Other players go the the normal ticks and bruises trhough out the season that all teams do.
I think this is exactly what happened. Tracy gets the surgery. Being that this is his first surgery, he has no experience on such problems. So he rests his knee in the summer, expecting it to be healed by the start of the season. He gets the news that Ron joined the team, and gets excited. He's anxious to play at the start of the season, and feels that he can play through the pain. It was obvious that he was in too much pain to play the way he usually does, and he finally decides that he needs to rehab it so that he can play without pain, or at least without his knee bothering him so much. He'll rehab hard (hopefully) and get back into game shape, and hopefully try to regain some of the same qualities that the Orlando T-mac had. He's thinking playoffs, and wants his body to be healthy for the big stage in April. He knows that the team has what it takes to win a championship, and wants to be playing at his best in order to lead this team to the Finals. He understands that this team needs a healthy, prolific scorer that T-Mac is capable of being on a consistent basis. Believe me, Tracy wants to be the best, but his body is just slowing him down. I still believe that Tracy can still be, (only if he works extra hard), the best player in the league (he certainly is the most versatile in my eyes). He just needs to be healthy again. And he also needs some motivation from his supporters.
I guess I missed it when the doctors and trainers told Tmac to stop playing when he was perfectly able to play? Oh wait, they told him he could and should play but he refuses because: A. his salary is guaranteed B. he has a low threshold for pain C. his salary is guaranteed
please close this, there was just another rant about this not too long ago. It makes no sense to blame the medical staff. Did they give Tmac scoliosis and a fragile body?? Did they make Yao so tall and heavy??? Did they trip Ron and twist his ankle?? Are they forcing Ron to play on a sore ankle? did they cause Francis' injury (which happened before he came to Houston)?? As for Dorsey, we don't know the whole story. He seems like a gym rat, especially when it comes to lifting. How do we know the rockets were giving him enough rest as far as practice is concerned, and he aggravated it by working out on his own time??? How do we know the rockets weren't managing his condition and Dorsey aggravated it by wearing the wrong type of shoe at home (yes that can aggravate this condition)?? doctors can only do so much and so can their equipment. The injured player themselves is extremely important since they know their body best and have to explain to the staff how they feel. If a bone is broken, of course they can see that clearly, but what if enough time has passed for the bone to heal and all the tests indicate it has, but the player doesn't report he still feels pain?
Phoenix doctors...Best in the biz. Seriously. After one visit to the docs at the Phoenix away game, T-Mac said he felt a lot better and played probably his best game all year. Those docs practically saved Grant Hill's career, and Amare's knee problems have pretty much gone away.
Couple of thoughts: *I don't think the medical staff is to blame for the fact that our players are injury prone. Essentially you have a guy over 7'2 suffering from foot problems, and a wiry, (formerly) freakishly athletic walking stick suffering from a variety of ailments. Both are standard. *I can't believe some of you are analyzing Dorsey's injury as proof of anything. *with that said, I do think the incompetence of the Rockets' training and medical staff is well documented and should be a cause for concern. like i said above, they aren't the reason our players are injury prone, but it's their negligence and gross ineptitude that really exacerbates certain situations and is very troubling. It's pretty much indefensible that Yao was basically playing on a stress fracture. What I'm most concerned about however is McGrady. After watching that training video posted on here sometime last year, it's pretty obvious to anyone with extensive weight training experience that his horrendous form is the direct cause of many of his injuries, most notably his arthritic shoulder. watching that video, i was literally appalled at the fact that a business organization could be so incompetent as to allow their most prized asset to damage himself in that manner. the curving of the back on most of his lifts, the violent swinging motions - the guy and his trainer had absolutely no idea what they were doing. the fact that he said the pain in his shoulder went away when he stopped lifting only confirms this suspicion.
come on guys....but i dont know..well but who knows how players feel but the players themselves...so if ron is playing through his injury right now and eventually misses the post season because.......ahhhhh i better shut my mouth...im just as disappointed as any rocket fan anyway....but i always say this team can only get better as the season progresses..and i still stand by that..just wait and see....theres no heading south..we're gonna get better and better...the docs to me are doing their job well...and also trainer keith jones... i still believe the rox have big things this season..we're a good team already and even better w/Mac..we were built around him and YAO anyway...so just wait for a healthy MAC..although im a l'il off topic..sorry guyz...i just have to say what im feeling as a rocketeer..PEACE n GET RED
