That's the risk you run when you have "dreadlocks fallin' all over the place."

That's dangerous, even worse than a horse collar. His neck could have been snapped. They need to make a rule against this ASAP.

If there was a rule, then guys would have hair down to their butts so they wouldn't give anything to grab onto.

If anything, that hair should be against the rules.

One time Troy Polamalu of the Steelers was yanked down from behind by his hair (in a playoff game, I think) and the defender was called for a penalty.

it happened to Al Harris and there was no penalty. either a week or a year later, it happened to the other GB CB who had 'em..

I remember Ricky Williams saying that an entire dreadlock was ripped off during a game once. That's gotta hurt.

That happened on this play as well. Skip to 1:04 in this video when they start to talk about it.

LOL it's what he deserves. Anything out of the helmet belongs to the defender.

I'm pretty sure the hair would get ripped out of your head long before your neck snapped.

Brendan Haywood and the mercurial Etan Thomas, both of the Washington Wizards, got into a fight a couple of years ago. Haywood ripped out one or two of Thomas' dreadlocks.

Yeah, because its given him so much of an advantage over everyone else. Seriously, that defender could have got his finger caught in his dreads and have them broken.

First thing that came to my mind too. Only if I remember correctly I don't believe the tackle itself was penalized while the pushing/shoving afterward was.

That was easily one of the strangest feuds in NBA history.

Not sure about the NCAA but the NFL already has a rule in place that says if your hair is long enough then it is considered part of your jersey and can be used to tackle you.

The tackle was not penalized and neither was the pushing and shoving. What Johnson did to draw the penalty was after tackling Troy by his hair, he yanked him up by his hair as well. The team was penalized and Johnson was fined.
