For the first time in a while the Rockets have too much talent and not enough positions on the roster.(Hard to believe huh?) D.J has great defensive skills, size and can get to the bucket. While Wafer who also is a ligit 2 can stroke the ball and has a knack for scoring. And of course Luther, who is a + 3pt shooter but is a one dimensional as a paper plate. He would really benefit playing in an offense like D'antoni's(so he doesn't handle the ball!!) Utimatelly I think Adelman's modified Princeton offense may be too much for him to grasp. Dorsey may or may not end up in the D league but with Deke's contract situation having him as a backup may earn him a roster spot by default. I'm just really impressed by how this team was put together and the talent that we have. Who ever gets cut I'm sure will five a spot with another team.
I think the Rockets really like Mike Harris. But, if they're choosing based on need, they'll probably keep Wafer. It's a tough call right now. I think Harris is the better player, actually, but Wafer does have some skill at the SG, and he could be a decent backup if we eventually trade Luther and Barry isn't available.
Someone's only got short-term memory. We say this every year just about, that "we've got so much talent on this roster" line. The truth is that our last unit has been tripping all over itself in the preseason, resulting in four straight ugly fourth quarter performances. What I see that's different this year is that our middle guys, from four to eight or nine, are significantly better than they were in the past. D.J. Strawberry, Von Wafer, and Mike Harris of 2008, might as well have been Kirk Snyder, Jackie Butler, Mike Harris, Steve Novak, Justin Reed of 2007, or Kirk Snyder, Vasillis Spanoulis, JL3, Kelenna Azubiuke of 2006
D.J. Strawberry will stay. I think the rockets should have given Barrera a chance. He is much better playmaker than Brooks and Strawberry.
The Greek T-Mac never got a real change to play his game, and Azubuike is a pretty change player that I'll change for Head in a heart beat.
theres no need for mike harris now that we have artest and battier, and its not like another team picked him up after we cut him last preseason. he's a 3rd stringer if he ever gets on a team. its between strawberry and wafer. both have awesome names. strawberry has a bit more nba experience than wafer, is a great defender, and very athletic. the problem is he can't shoot, while wafer is a good scorer but can't do much else. right now i'd pick wafer just because we need all the offense from our guards we can get.
Let's do it!! I feel bad for Head though....but i don't feel confident when he's on the floor defensively and offensively he only shoot 3...that's it!
At least with Strawberry and Wafer..these guys can attack the basket and that is a MUST and Head can't attack! I mean he can...but he doesn't have the muscle and physicality to drive in and make things happen.
Dude Strawberry? The one who cost us the game against the sorriest team in the league? The one who tried to be make a layup and got his ass rejected badly by Kevin Durant? The one who HOGGED the ball and tried to be HERO and go for the win and got his ass he REJECTED for the 2nd time and basically cost us the game.. So Hell to Strawberry.. Keep Mike Harris and sign VON WAFER!
might be a good idea to give barrera a try. my vote for the cut goes to strawberry and harris. dj is decent, but doesn't seem to have enough to make to the roster on our team. i think wafer has been better than him. harris is actually imo the best one among the all 3 possible cuts, it's just we need him no more now at the 3 spot. kep wafer, and give barrera a try. wait until the mid-season and make another cut or trade to make room for deke, maybe?
strawberry gets cut. i hope they are able to send dorsey to the d-league because i think he will benefit immensely from it. once he learns how to not foul as much the dude will be awesome.
Not that tough of cuts. Barring any injuries, I doubt any of the "final cuts" see significant playing time.
