Thought Rice played well for 1 qtr. Jarret Dillard and Clement are really fun to watch, very much in synch. This was a great test for the Texas secondary since Rice runs a similar offense to Big 12 teams.

True Sophmore Blaine Irby suffered a nasty hit. It was not a cheap shot ala Auburn vs Glen Dorsey. Kid might be done with football but I'm hoping for the best.

Not for the squemish.

I nearly ralphed last night when I saw that live... I missed it the first time - but when they said they wouldn't replay it out of respect to Irby's family - I went back on my tivo to rewatch it...

Ouch... feel very bad for the kid...

Horrible injury...big loss for the Horns and hopefully he can fully recover. McGahee's injury was just as bad and while he hasn't been the same, he was back after a year.

I watched this while eating breakfast and I didn't think it was that bad. Does this mean I'm not human? Don't get me wrong stuff like the Randy Livingston injury makes me cringe, but not this for some reason.

I hope the kid recovers from it though, it's a rough deck of cards when an injury can potentially end your career

I don't think I will let my boy play football past peewee football. I don't want him have a life changing injury before he even becomes an adult.

I'm hoping that Irby can make it back at some point. He probably tore all or most of the ligaments in that knee. I can't even imagine the kind of pain he was in yesterday. Still he managed to throw up a Hook Em on his way off the field. Here's to Blaine recovering and playing ball again.

Forgive my ignorance, Mr. Fight, sir, but... what's "ralphed"? Is this a new verb?

Was at the game and saw the hit live. It looked like a cheap hit. Replay, not so much, but then again it didn't look like that serious of a hit either. I was only like 20 rows up. Just goes to show you how fast the game is and how little detail we see as casual observers.

I was wondering why they didn't show a replay. He was making some pretty contorted faces. Poor guy. He could barely keep his horns up. Must've been excruciating.

Wish I was at the game man. But, you're right, it wasn't a cheap shot. Irby's knee buckled and went the wrong way. It looks like he's got a severely dislocated knee cap.

He will get a medical redshirt this season, and have 3 years of eligibility left, which is good.

Well then is he just going to hide in the house playing video games all his life. It's a sad fact that injuries can happen in any major sport. I will say that the odds of it happening in football are greater, but look at the injury lists in all sports. No matter how well protected you are, there's always the chance for injury.

I guess he could play golf, but that's a rather expensive hobby.
