http://www.informationweek.com/news...icleID=210601995&subSection=Operating+Systems About time T-mobile came out with a decent phone.
I love HTC hardware. I've had Treos, Blackberries and HTCs and the latter were my favorite. They all have different advantages/disadvantages so to each his own. The last HTC I had was the Verizon 6700. The thing was durable as heck. I used to drop it and toss it around to show friends how nearly unbreakable it was. HTCs are kind of like the Panasonic Toughbooks of handhelds. They usually aren't sleek and sexy but definitely rugged. Got an iPhone now which has better software features but the HTC hardware is still the best I've seen to date.
Apparently the selling point for the android is the software, at least this one. It has half the Mhz as the iphone, but its potential apps is what its marketing.
been hearing about this for a while. Checked out some info and watched a video recently and it's pretty impressive and the customization that it has is a great selling point compared to the iphone. I currently have the iphone and am with T-Mobile so I am definitely going to want to check this phone out and see if it really can do some damage. Here's a demo video <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/arXolJrLVEg&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/arXolJrLVEg&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
I have the HTC Dash for T-Mobile right now and love it! I'd be willing to go with this new Dream if I wasn't getting Free Internet on my dash due to some sort of glitch in the system.
im getting free internet on my Shadow! haha. i hate to switch phones too. I also love the WiFi on my shadow. i'd hate to switch, but that phone looks good
Me and everyone else I know that had a Dash had major issues with it holding a charge. OK PDA, crappy phone. I'll stick with my Nokia E61i, great phone, OK Exchange Server.
If anyone is interested, there are similar (almost identical) programs on XDA-Devs for phones that run windows mobile 6.1. I have that unlock software it shows at the start, but my has the Rockets logo instead of just plain dots. There is also a FlashLite program that allows you to put that clock and almost any other flash program on your screen so you can move it around. Just look for Twolf's software thread. That is for people you can wait for the phone and want to test similar tools.
Came out today: http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/23/live-from-t-mobiles-android-event-in-new-york-city/
I have been wanting T-Mobile to come out with something like this. I am in the process of ordering one on another window. $179 with a $220 online discount. The sticking point for me is paying the extra $35/month for the internet. I so do not need any of the capabilities, but what a fun toy. Somebody talk me out of this real quick.
I probably won't be trading in my Blackberry any time soon, but I wish Google the best. I hope this puts major pressure and Apple, Nokia (Symbian) and RIM to continue innovating and improving their products, whether they take the proprietary or open source path. I really want Google to succeed with Android and even moreso with Gears/Chrome to shake up the existing status quos.
Here's what I want to know: why doesn't this thing have a headphone jack? http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/23/confirmed-t-mobile-g1-has-no-3-5mm-headphone-jack/
Yeah that is the only thing i saw that I don't like. You have to use an adapter for it. Another thing that I noticed in the videos was that the browser is a bit choppy compared to the fluid motion of the iPhone. The auto sync stuff with Gmail and other google stuff like the calendar is amazing though. There needs to be a few more updates before this phone will truly beat the iPhone but it's very close if not neck and neck already.
iPhone is more of a music/phone device whereas the G1 focuses more on productivity and less on the media aspect. That is probably the reason for no headphone jack.
I am getting this phone. Hopefully they will get microsoft exchange capability soon... Anyone actually use Google calendar for work??
Microsoft Exchange...this is a huge issue for me as my contacts in my Dash sync with my Outlook contacts. I love that versatility and it was something I was looking for in a new phone. Either way, it was strange how quiet T-Mobile was being on the smartphone front as everyone and their mom was releasing new smartphones and they seemd to be laying unbelievably now. I've had my Dash for almost 2 yrs now and am ready to upgrade...
I've got a question about the Google Map Compass feature. I get how it shows basically street view, but it shows wherever you point the phone. But wouldn't it be easier to just look past the phone? You know, using your own eyes to see the street instead of the phone interface. I'm probably missing something here...please explain
And I just looked it up at T-mobile and it seems for existing customers its 299.99 for a 2 yr extension. Unless it's some sort of mail in rebate I'm not seeing.
I got the Touch Diamond over the weekend. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/35q4g6dZdM8&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/35q4g6dZdM8&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> The Android OS looks potentially killer, but there's a solid dev community for Winmo. I'm guessing there'll be roms for both OSes since the hardware's almost the same... Almost all HTC phones share that flaw of not having a headphone jack. Look out for the Touch HD, which should come out around the end of this year. Almost perfect... http://www.generation-phonehouse.fr...ideo-quelques-photos-en-plus-du-htc-touch-hd/
