Was this a Freudian slip? This will raise issues among the blogosphere, and throughout the internet. Obama has worked so hard to distance himself from Islam -- apparently he considers it a 'smear'. It's on his website 'fightthesmears.com', so apparently, he thinks being called a Muslim is in fact a smear. The video clip below is what everyone is talking about. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/XKGdkqfBICw&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/XKGdkqfBICw&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Look, many have written about Jeremiah Wright's roots as being in Islam. Wright is described by Obama as his spiritual mentor, and 'like an uncle'. Most religious ceremonies pertaining to Obama's life have been officiated by Wright. Obama listed "Islam" as his religion on forms when he was in school in Indonesia, and of course his biological father and his family are/were Muslims. Thoughts?
Thoughts? Don't care. But people who are shallow enough to believe the fear mongering put out by the Republican Propaganda ministry might. If the Republicans believe so much in religion, why do they nominate a man who cheated on his wife, and then left her? DD
Religion is a smear when it is used to scare people or disseminate misinformation. Same with things like gender, race, etc. Thoughts? I'm tired of fear and smear.
Thoughts? <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/xob2HyCbj50&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/xob2HyCbj50&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> ...I think this is the graver Freudian slip. A behind the scenes look at the ugly, anti-beer, anti-fun person that is John McCain. *shiver with disgust and fear*
How does his religion being "Islam" disqualify him for running for President? Or, better yet, why would this be a problem, TJ?
Bigotry primarily... but I doubt most non-Islamic people in America would vote for a Muslim given certain events this decade. Either way, I doubt the country will really care at this point. Too much invested.
Probably will scare the same uneducated hicks that can't tell the difference between a Sikh and an Arab.
Oh, I understand why he would disassociate himself from Islam- I was just wondering the point Mr. Jorge was trying to make, whether he personally thinks that someone who follows Islam should be disqualified from running for President.
maybe he is from w.virginia? They are christans who believe all men are created equal besides certain groups of people in america him.
Of course it isn't true that Obama ever registered himself as a Muslim. TJ is lying and he knows he's lying. That's been shown before. Even TJ used to say his step father registered him as one. Now TJ is just flat out lying.
Being Muslim should in no way disqualify a person for any position or office. That said, I'm wondering why Barack Obama himself considers the accusation of being Muslim a 'smear'... He unambiguously characterizes it that way on his website. Explain that, friend.
1. it's not a true characterization 2. in a religiously intolerant country the continued false depiction of his religious beliefs is negative campaigning that must be countered You know this country was really moving ahead when we elected the openly agnostic Ronald Reagan.
I don't want the Evangelicals anywhere near the Whitehouse.....we don't need our own version of the Taliban here in the USA. DD
I don't know or care what Obama's religious beliefs are, and I think it's sad that it should be an issue at all.
It's not complicated. If someone is distorting your beliefs to sway votes away from you, that's a smear. It doesn't imply that he thinks Muslims are unqualified to run for a office. But he understands the reality -- a Muslim in today's society doesn't have a chance of winning the Presidency, and this campaign to cast him as one is clearly intended to hurt his chances.
Are you really equating being an Evangelical (Christian) to a Radical Extreme Islamic terrorist group? I find it very offensive and in no way truthful by any means.
