This is not a trash the kids post.

This is not the type of family example that you want to hold up as appropriate for the US. Highschool kids having a baby. 9/10 this is not going to turn out too well especially under GOP America with lower foodstamps, decreased welfare, rising college tuition, harder to get student loans, lower minimum wages, no health insurance in the underskilled parents work place etc.

Can the Palins manage this ok? Sure. Governor Palin can make a lot of money and hire child care help both for her own baby and her daughter's buy the young folks a house, assuming they live together, get them health insurance, pay for college or training, transportation etc. while they proceed to get skills. If their possible teen wedding (perhaps in the Whitehouse) doesn't turn out. Bristol can always go home and Governor or VP Palin can provide. Hell McCain can give Briston and friend the use of one of his houses.

Meanwhile I can see millions of lower middle class and poor kids saying: "look at Bristol Palin what is so bad about me having a kid." when you know the results will not turn out in most cases to produce the stable high skilled families that are best for America.

As a liberal I am troubled by making this family a poster child for American families and I would think moderates and conservative would too.

    Bad judgment on McCain's part.

If one of Obama's daughters were pregnant, "bad example" is exactly what right-wingers would be harping on. Pure hypocrisy.

Heck, McCain is a bad example as a family man, he cheated on his wife before leaving her.

He would start em anyway Sam.

Maybe, just maybe, had the republican party as a whole not a made an entire platform out of "values" they themselves cannot uphold, you'd have a point.

Instead you have what amounts to political "kicking yourself in the nuts".

America's Presidents have a history worthy of a thick book regarding poor family values and strange/crooked Presidential family members. Even one of my heroes, JFK, did a lot of dallying on the side. No, I care about the leadership and ability a candidate brings, not his or her baggage.

Well you didn't see John Edwards being rewardeed by Obama and being picked for VP or even appearing at the Convention. The point is that McCain chose Palin's family out of all the Republicans in America and therefore specifically endorses them as a good example for America.

Well hopefully this will lead the GOP to give more support to teen unwed mothers.

Nah, we are far too prudish, but that is primarily the lunacy of the religious right.

I wonder if Barack Obama should be elected president. Don't we hear all about how he's a great example of a man raising his children? Hasn't he set himself up as an example to black men? Well if he's president, how will he be able to be a good father? Bad example for America.

Obama will be a great president, and won't try to legislate the bedroom like the Republicans do...

If the Republicans would marginalize the Radical religiouis right, they would resonate more with independents like me.
