I'm curious to see what others are paying and how your cable bill is broken down. $82 bucks for cable seems pretty high to me for what I'm getting, but maybe it's the norm. Maybe I could be persuaded to go dish. I pay around $130 also. But I have no HD and for some reason I pay $44.95 for my internet. I have all the movie channels but only one converter. I am going to be switching to DSL next month.
I have Grande in Austin, and they don't block the basic cable when you buy internet. So I get 8.0mbps internet and basic cable for $42.56/mo. after tax.

I just got uVerse. It kicks serious ass. I got the first month free, free installation, and $150 cash back after six weeks or something. Internet is $30 for 3.0Mbps D/L Not quite as fast as Comcast which I got at about 4.0 Mbps but plenty fast enough. TV is 200 channels with HD, HD DVR, and extra regular box. I think it's $59 for the uVerse 200, $10 for HD programming, $5 for an extra box I think. Total: $104 I think HBO is like $14, it has 5 HD HBO's though... pretty cool. I may get it soon.
My god, paying over $100 for cable is just crazy. I have DirecTV. Get all standard channels, the HD package, HBO, and Showtime, for about $92. That includes $10/month for 2 DVR's. That's my normal bill. Right now though I'm getting all premium channels for $89 plus the NFL Sunday Ticket for free this year. But that's only because their installers are morons and it took 4 appointments for them to finally get my service transferred to the new house. I love DirecTV's programming, but the 3rd party installers they use are horrible.
People are paying that much with broadband Internet included. You are paying almost that much without Internet...
I was in between jobs and I went to go cancel my comcast bill in person. So they gave me cable and internet for $40/month for six months ($20 for each service). I think this is the last month so I wonder if I could do the same thing again.
I just got Uverse (for the second time) and I pay $115 per month for U300 with 3 receivers and dsl pro.
This is like me, but with Time Warner in SA. I'm inexplicably subscribed to Starz and have been too lazy to take it off, so mine is a little more.
DirecTv - 74.99 (Premium Package, Sports pak and add 34.99 a month for three months for NBA LP - 2 TVs 1 DVR) Cincinnati Bell - Phone (long distance), internet, cell. - 134.99
Yeah, I got the deal when I was returning my DVR box. While I miss the DVR big time and all the other goodies (HBO, SHO, ESPN News etc.), I'm really enjoying not paying over $100/m on cable and internet. I get ABC, CBS, FOX, WETA, UPN, WB in HD free over the air so that gives me my HD fix (though I do miss all the cable HD channels). Cable re-runs enough stuff so I just go back to watching tv the way I did before DVR. If I really needed to record something for cheap, I could always go buy a dvd recorder or find an old vcr somewhere. If you want to lower your price, just go there in person and say you want to cancel everything because you're poor or the gas prices are too high or something. Cable and internet are still luxuries for some and they'll want to keep you, and the reps on site have great abilities to give major discounts. You can probably negotiate your monthly bill down a few notches. But who really does that, other than those who are in a real bind who are seriously considering canceling the services? No one else really, and that's why it works.
