http://www.etonline.com/news/2008/06/62841/index.html

ET breaks the news that comedian George Carlin has died from heart failure. The man who made famous the "seven words you can never say on television" passed away at 5:55 p.m. Sunday at Saint John's Hospital in Santa Monica, his longtime publicist said. He was 71.

Carlin, who has had several heart attacks and a history of cardiac issues, went into the hospital this afternoon after complaining of heart problems.

Carlin has more than 20 comedy albums, 14 HBO specials, numerous TV and movie roles, and three best-selling books to his credit. Last year, he celebrated his 50th year in show business, and he had just finished his last HBO special in March, "It's Bad for Ya."

How sad. He is one of the greatest comics ever. And a legend among fans of stand up comedy like me. R.I.P.

Damn that sucks.

I have read all three of his books.

Guy had a brilliant mind. And damn he was funny.

I hate to hear that.

Damn.

I have this calendar on my desk at work and always start my day off with one of his jokes...

I get the feeling that tomorrow morning's joke isn't going to be as funny as usual

R.I.P.

Why 5:55?

Because 6:66 wasn't an option.

He had guts, I'll give him that.

I have the same calendar.

Easily my favorite comedian of all time. Can't believe it. I'm sure he had a lot of great stuff left in him. Very, very sad to see him go.

Best comedian ever, period. I thought he might have slipped a little on his second to last HBO special, "Life is Worth Losing;" but his most recent one was as good as ever.

RIP. A great comic. I remember watching one of his specials as a teenager and that was probably the first time I laughed so hard I hurt.

RIP.

I'm grateful for the last 20 years. With the life he led, I'm glad he was able to make it to his 70's.

I'm tempted to say "God bless him," but that'd probably just piss him off.
