That's even more disturbing than those "cool" people who gauge their ears.

I hope those people take antibiotics before and after... that seems likely to get infected and screw up the design, or threaten your life.

Are you nuts? Good tatoos will never die.
On a similar note, when I was in college in the mid 80's the black fraternities would brand their names into their arms. And by brand I mean with hot metal like cattle. Does that still go on?

Yes it still goes on. My friend is a member of Phi Beta Sigma and many of his frat brothers have brands, some very extensive. I have seen it on other black fraternity members as well. I don't think it is as common as it once was, as many are now opting for tattoos.

That's pretty gross, but I'll be honest- the skin carvings in Apacolypto were really cool.

I gave up on "cool" a long time ago. Stuff like this makes that decision more valid.
If tats, carvings and piercings were part of anything deeply cultural, traditional, tribal or religious it'd be one thing. There's hardly ANY significant culture in America besides pop culture, so that doesnt leave much real "meaning" behind doing that.
Well, to each their own & we only live once i guess...

I think the end product of the skin carving looks pretty cool. Would I get it, hell no..but it looks nice.

BTW, skin carving looks like something that laws would require MDs to do, no?

The final result kind of looks cool, but the whole process looks crazy. The picture with the slices of skin is pretty gross.
It reminds me of the book Comanche Moon with the guy that skins people for torture.

Agreed. I like the end result. Would I get it, probably, but I'd have to be REALLY liquored up.
