Yeah, that was bad. Not many Americans understand or will even tolerate the concept of white privilege. Reverend Pleger isn't a part of Trinity, but it's a good strategy to undermine Obama's church in order to paint the guy as a fake Christian.

    Keep poundin that wedge...

Someone who isn't a part of Obama's church said something that wasn't racist. But it did contain the term "white people".

    And this is newsworthy, why?

    he's described by Moss as "a friend of Trinity . . . a brother beloved . . . a preacher par excellence . . . a prophetic, powerful pulpiteer . . . our friend . . . our brother..."

    moreover, as the Times reported:

[rquoter]Typical of Mr. Obama's earmarks was a $100,000 grant for a youth center at a Catholic church run by the Rev. Michael Pfleger, a controversial priest who was one of the few South Side clergymen to back Mr. Obama against [Rep. Bobby] Rush.[/rquoter]

And your point is? Someone isn't a part of the Trinity church and is described as a friend says something that isn't racist, but contains the term "white people".

    Why is this newsworthy?

he's another "spiritual advisor" to Omama, who seems to have exocised all mention of him from his website.

and, he's providing earmarks to support a crackpot, racist, idiot.

This church will bring Obama to his knees -- and not for prayer.

    I can't wait

Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly was it that the guy said that was so wrong?

Wrong. Obama has never claimed him as a spiritual advisor.

Furthermore I haven't seen or heard anything the guy has said that was racist.

Sorry basso but saying "white people" doesn't automatically make it racist, especially when he quantified the remark with "a whole lotta" along with it.

You have failed to show how what this man said was bad, and certainly haven't been able to draw a close connection to Obama. The guy isn't even a member of the church.

    Don't you understand!!!!!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!!??

The guy actually spoke at the Trinity church, and said the term "a whole lotta White People". That makes him an American hating, racist and bigot. It doesn't matter that content in which he used those words, and that it wasn't racist.

But apparently basso is a poor oppressed white person. I hope the black power structure that keeps him down, is exposed.

Kind of funny when the Clintons were saying the only reason obama is winning because he is black...basso didn’t have a problem with that at all.

This was reported (not by TJ) and they said "Funny but crude."

Totally agreed on both counts. Maybe not terribly appropriate either, but not awful.

The contents itself? Reverend Pleger brings up well tread points for reparations or affirmative action, and that'll definitely cause a reflexive reaction to those who don't believe in it. Wedge issues are political quagmires. Secondly, Hillary diehards are feeling sore at the moment, and this is more than rubbing it in. He's rocking the boat at a time where no one knows how that 30% anti-Obama faction will react when the dust is settled. The association by Church tactic has worked before and it'll reinforce the voters who bought it.

Hillary and the Republicans will use it as part of the growing narrative against Obama, not Muslim as far as I know, and his "radical" church. This is far tamer than the Wright tapes (some members here also didn't have an initial problem with), but the seed of doubt is already planted.

I don't think it'll hurt Obama poll-wise, but Obama is courting those hard working...Democrats and Independents, and that's where the potential damage will be. The lies and whisper campaigns have another weapon to use. Just check out the Youtube title for misrepresentations at work.

The contents of Obama's Philly speech reflects that Obama gets it, unfortunately his supporters doesn't. I guess the Wright scandal gave him some preparation on how to handle this, but ultimately it's on Obama to prove himself and who he is to those Appalachian region and other traditionally poor Democrats/Indies that he's the genuine article, that he can relate to their economic troubles and that he can kill those persisting questions of his supposed lack of patriotism.
