It got up to 89 today and I finally had to give in and put down all my windows and cut on my air conditioner. Got me to thinking at what temperature does it become so uncomfortable to others that they have to cut on their AC, especially that most of the people on this board have to deal with that Texas heat.

So when do you turn your's on?

In the car it's on almost 9 months out of the year. At the house usually when it hits 78 or above on my thermostat I give in and turn it on.

I set my thermostat at 68 degrees. I leave it on auto and I never touch it again.

I haven't spent more than 100 bucks on my electric bill all year

I once turned on the AC in the winter out of habit and left the house. When I came back it was pretty bad.

People, I am asking what temperature is too hot outside for you just to leave your AC off not asking what temperature you leave it on.

I understood your question the first time, but that's what I'm telling you, mine is constantly set at 68 degrees. Basically it's always on. It's on auto and I NEVER turn it off....

Yeesh, ok ok! 80-85 depending on how shiny it is.... happy? :)

Sometimes I turn it on when it's in the 70's when my gf is over ;)

    Current Temp: 74°F
    Feels Like: 74°F

i have the windows open and ceiling fans on, but honestly it's still a bit warm for my tastes. since i'm not at home during the high heat of the day it's hard to say what temp i'd turn it on, but when the thermostat is near or above 75 i usually gotta turn the AC on.

If it's humid outside, I have to turn the AC on at 75 degrees. If not, I'd guess 80 is my max.

But I could definitely put up with way hotter temperatures, it's just the Texas factor that makes me used to having to run the AC all the damn time.

Pretty much. The thermostat is always at 72 or lower if I'm in the house. I also have a high volume blower fan blowing directly on me as I sleep. My apartment in college had a wall unit and didn't have a temperature guage but I'll bet it was in the mid to low 60's most of the time. Yeah, my electric bill is high but I'm uncomfortable at 74. On the other side, I may wear a coat only 5 times during winter. I think there was one a few years ago where I never put on a jacket.

Doesn't matter what the temp is outside, my thermostat is set to 72 overnight.

I keep mine at either 69 or 70. A lot of time, I can just open the windows. In LA it gets cool at night, and my place is pretty well shaded.

I am exactly like you. Except I do put on warm clothes in the winter. But I have to have it at 73 max with the fan blowing right on my face. So even when its cool out Ill have the AC going. I would go nuts in Chicago or San Diego in a place with no unit. I need my AC.

i haven't been in Texas in a while.. but I still remember the weather and the A/C settings per season.. you know... summer and spring..

in "winter".. i'd rarely put the A/C at any temp lower than 75.

in summer... i'd rarely put the A/C at any temp higher than 66.. god how those electric bills were a pain in the arse every summer.. May to October... definitely don't miss that...
