Voter Intimidation by Democrats in Florida

Here's something you probably haven't heard:

"Phipps said he received at least three dozen complaints from constituents that Democratic campaign workers for Al Gore and state assemblyman Philip Brutus unfairly and illegally violated the 50-foot rule around some precincts in Little Haiti.

The rule prohibits workers from interfering with voters' access to the polls or trying to pressure them.

Some campaign volunteers actually entered the precincts, Phipps said, telling voters what holes to punch and forcing sheets of paper into their hands with the numbers to punch listed on them."

I know it's just Texas, but you can do it here if you're the Lt. Gov. He campaigned at the courthouse, with television cameras and all, and that was deemed OK.

However, if they can prove this, then someone should be punished. I'm pretty sure that this isn't the best way to get votes, through intimidation.

I'm pretty sure that Lt. Gov. Perry didn't enter the voting areas and tell voters which hole to punch and forcing sheets of paper into their hands with the numbers to punch listed on them.

Perry had no intent to break the law. He was asked to give an interview for TV, he asked the polling people if it was okay to do it in the hallway, the polling people gave him bad information and said it was okay. They shouldn't have. But there was no intent by Perry to pressure people into voting a certain way. His violation was a technical one. More along the lines of a mistake than an effort to break the law. It's not being prosecuted likely because you'd never find a jury to convict.

The Lt. Gov. needs to be more aware of the law. And the polling workers need to be more aware of the law. Equating what Perry did with telling voters which holes to punch and forcing sheets of paper into voters hands with with the numbers to punch listed on them while within the voting precint is stretching things a little far.
