You know, you have to admit.... this was one HELL of an election. Close Senate races, close house races, VERY close Popular races, and VERY close electoral count..
I must becoming a nerd in my old age, but I enjoyed the hell out of tonight. (Especially since my man won)

Well, in that case there was absolutely no tampering with the election counting.

I guess my prediction that the election wouldn't even be close was WAY off, huh?

But I did predict Bush would win, so I am going to play up that part of the prediction and not the "It won't even be close" part.

The Arena passing was the most important thing to me, though.

I even redesigned my http://www.noarena.net parody site to reflect the victory.

Oh, and I am happy that Dee Anderson is the new Tarrant County Sheriff. I think that was the only other election I was actually watching.

GOP controls all three houses.

Bush appoints next three justices for the Supreme Court.

Very exciting.... CNN's screw-up had me glued to the TV screen the whole night.

The funny thing is I already had my bags packed for Canada earlier in the night.... damn if CNN didn't drop the ball giving Florida to Gore so early (I mean damn, we only had to wait 6 hours later for the real results).

An election this close (I still think we'll hear some "recount"-type stories over the next day or so) ... We've never seen anything like this and probably won't again for a long time...

By the way, the Green Party has an automatic spot on the ballot for 2002 in Texas. They don't have to go rounding up signatures to get on the ballot. (Because they got more than 5% in a statewide race. Railroad Commissioner in this case).

So if any of you Green Party types want to run for office in 2002, you'll have a little bit easier time of it and might want to start thinking about your campaigns right now. The Reform Party people will have to resort to getting signatures to get on the ballot in 2002. Libertarians are on the ballot, too, but they always are.

Personally, I will continue my quest to start the Regular Folks Party: The Party for the Rest of Us.

We don't know that Bush will get to appoint three justices to the Supreme Court. Even if we give him three, one of them is going to be Rehnquist, one of the more conservative members of the Court already. So that's a wash. O'Connor has had health problems, but she's no shoo in for retirement, either. And Stevens may well try to hold on for four years, too.

It's as likely that Bush will appoint no Supreme Court justices as it is that he'll point three. Abortion Rights has had a solid 6-3 (except partial birth abortion which was decided 5-4, but that's not the same as Roe v. Wade), so it'll take all three retiring and being replaced by more conservative justices just to shift the court on that issue alone (Since, again, Rehnquist retiring would not shift the court).

Plus lest us not forget that sometimes people that get appointed to the court do not turn out the way we thought they would. David Souter has been a very moderate justice, but no one thought he would be when he was appointed. Stevens has been far more liberal than was expected when he was appointed.

Plus, we can note that the Senate is likely to be more moderate than in recent years (since the split is likely to be 50-50 in the Senate). It may actually be harder to get a very conservative justice appointed at least for the next two years. And it will certainly be tough to get three of them appointed and confirmed.

So, I don't think there is any need to panic as of yet. And certainly engaging in hyperbole doesn't really accomplish anything.

Oh My God!

All major networks are reporting that the Secretary of State of Florida is now reporting that with 99.9% of the vote, there is a 565 vote lead for Bush!!!!

Neither Bush nor Gore has come out to speak yet. They were supposed to 30 mins ago.

Also, 30,000 overseas military mail in votes are coming in tomorrow and the day after, many of which go to Florida.

Simply unbelievable!!

There are going to be MANDATORY (by law) recounts in like 3 states!!

I'm glued to the TV.

Man, this is something out of a book. This is a weird election.

By the way, CBS keeps saying 529 votes is all that separated the two. But on the numbers they put on the TV it is like 6000 votes.
VERY CLOSE no matter which way it goes now

WHAT AN ELECTION!.... man what a night! I wouldn't have believed a story like this if someone made it up....

Who thinks one or two crazy Floridians aren't thinking about attempting some illegal stuff right about now? ahem, ahem.... tampering so their favorite candidate comes out on top (Bush or Gore)...

BTW, CNN BLOWS. Twice they jumped the gun on Florida.... unbelievable.

I'm off to bed (finally).... we should know who wins the presidency within 4-6 weeks

Clutch,
Actually ALL the networks called it. I still want Bush to win, no doubt, BUT the blame of this BS has GOT to be the networks. The candidates followed them, as did we. First they called it originally for Gore, then undecided, then Bush, now undecided...
The voting process has to change somehow.

I wonder how long it will take to count 6 million votes? and I wonder like Clutch said, will someone try something fishy? I wonder who has possession of the ballots right now?

18,011 votes seperate the Two candidates NATIONALLY out of 100 million votes. WOW!
I dont care for Gore, but I certainly feel for him AND Bush. They have been through ALOT tonight, as has AMerica.

I really can't blame the networks on this. The normally reliable exit polls and models just weren't this time. There wasn't any way to know that. Also, with votes missing and possible malfunctions, the networks really couldn't see it coming.

I can't believe it. I won't be getting any sleep for a long time.

Man, if I was a publisher I would think this story is too farfetched. So many plot lines.
I'm off to bed. Last I checked, Gore is winning popular vote by 200,000 and Wisc. by less than 400. Bush was winning Fla. by 224.
More drama. Attorney general in Florida is democrat, Sec. of State is Republican. Also, Fla. is on a punch ballot system, and many that thought they voted for Gore actually voted for Buchanan.
