fans voted: yes on james no on brooks no on landry yes on scola yes on francis as i see it, the only player on which the fans popular vote was correct was scola. 1/5. not a great %. the popular vote appears to be "no" on jackson. good sign.
You have the complete wrong theory here. james [Dawson 99%/Morey 1%] brooks [Morey] landry [Morey] scola [Morey] francis [Francis basically put himself here] Jackson [Alexander]
I am just saying the correlation between who made the deal carries the real value not fan reaction voodoo. IMO
very understandable. and i agree. however, this thread is meant to show that knee-jerk reactions to deals are rarely an accurate measure to the success of the deal.
Good post. Further proof that fans who make kneejerk reaction comments and claim that our management knows nothing about basketball before they give the move an opportunity to play out are douches.
Excellent thread. I think the Rockets management has shown they more often make better decisions than the fans on this board. The 2/5 bad decisions that you mentioned were ironically the ones that the fans on this board were the most excited about. BTW...this trade reminds me a lot of the Jim Jackson for David Wesley trade. Overvalued and inconsistent former star SG for hard-working and underappreciated role player SG. That trade was unpopular at the time, but it really improved the chemistry and work ethic of that team. I think this trade could do the same.
The Jackson trade is going to slightly improve the roster IMO. The problem is it will not be enough to get us out of the first round again. While every other team in contention here has improved in the past month, we have essentially done nothing more than sat and watched.
Well, just because we haven't made a 'Big Splash' move like some of the other teams, it would be wrong to say we haven't improved. In fact, just based upon our play and our record since the calendar flipped, you could make a case that the Rockets have improved more than anyone else in the league.
Daryl Morey is a genius. Unfortunately for fans who typically can't see past the tip of their noses, it usually takes several months before they realize how brilliant his moves are.
Actually the big reason why it helps us *now* is the fact that we were about to run into the playoffs with a raw, unproven rookie as our backup point guard. Suddenly we don't have that problem anymore.
We got T-mac back, we worked Landry into the rotation, and we're starting Scola... and not to mention that you can't magically create trades that other teams should accept.
Well when you are clearly seeking to cut salary and are opposed to taking more on (as Mouthpiece Feigen has been preparing the fans for the past couple weeks), then yes it is obviously going to be difficult to convince trading partners to send talent back. And sure we have a 9 game winning streak. The wins have largely come against lackluster teams and in many of the wins we have simply looked like crap (see Kings game). I will wait another week to see how we fair against the Hornets, but I am still not sold on this team being able to do anything in the playoffs.
It's true - and the salary dump could very well be of benefit next season - but it's hard to take in the short term.
exactly. half of the people whining about this trade doesn't even know who bobby jackson is. they look up some stats and see he scores 2pts less than bonzi a night and go oh man what we gonna dooooo?
And that would be the case even with Bonzi... unless T-mac+Yao can start being unstoppable on any given night (which is still not out of the realm of possibility to happen). But compared to other western conference elite teams... we still need more. Jackson provides insurance against Rafer struggling, and it will be interesting to see how a PG who knows the ins and outs of the system helps. I have a feeling that Adelman will be a little bit more comfortable dusting off the princeton offense, and using it more with Jackson running the team. But I'm assured that T-mac will have to play at a high level again for this team to have a fighting chance. I am optimistic about Scola, Landry, and Brooks continuing to make progress for the future.
