Man... I pay 40% in taxes... damn, that's alot.

Last year, I paid $60,000.00 in taxes for 8 months of work. I didn't work for about five months this year, but I expect to pay about the same amount of money, merely because I demanded a higher rate by 10% (I pushed for a 20% raise, but I'm an understanding employee... I'll wait until the next project).

Anyway, I think that not everything can go bad if Bush wins the election:

1) I'm a fan of private schools. Although private schools will raise their prices if vouchers become available, I doubt it will be possible for them to raise the fare proportionally. A stipend from the federal government will help me out alot, thanks. I will be able to keep up my lifestyle... third row seats behind the Rockets bench when they visit Utah, snowboarding in excess of a hundred days a year, vacations through Europe. What a blast.

2) I manage my own retirement portfolio. Not having to waste my money to support you guys that do not make a 10% of what I make will help me out alot. Thanks.

3) HMOs? What the hell are those? I pay for my own private insurance. Gore is definitely not talking to me. Who are these poor people that actually deal w/ that crap? "HMOs"... LOL. God, get a job.

4) Supreme Court justices? There will be a civil war if Roe v. Wade is overturned. Yeah, it's going to happen. Yawn.

5) I'm sure Bush isn't that much of an idiot. He seems more like a loose project manager. He may not be the best manager, but, like a good pm, he'll get the people in power to do the real work.... just like the Lieutenant Governor of Texas. But wait, looking at the Texas record, I don't like the work that the lieutenant governor has done in Texas. Hmmm... well, we should give him a chance to hire someone else of merit, someone that won't continue the horrible things in Texas. That's fair. I'm sure if he fails in a little project, that putting him in a project w/ an order of magnitude of about 10 billion, that everything'll flow. It's the same thing.

6) Re: the environment. For some it might seem weak that Bush grabbed the one scientist in a million that actually doesn't believe in global warming. I personally don't care. I live at 5000 feet above sea level. I don't have to worry about Charleston, Houston, Manhattan, LA, Bombay, and all of the other places within 25m of sea level. The Fillsner Ice Shelf will supposedly fall into the water if the earth heats up by 1.5 C in the next 50 years. Imagine an ice cube the size of the eastern sea board falling into the water. Plop. LOL.

7) Re: the tax cut. I was previously concerned w/ the trillion dollars hitting the economy. It could certainly heat things up when people see $500.00 in their pockets. Of course they're going to spend it. That much money on the economy? Geez, talk about inflationary pressures. Those people would be best helped by having better interest rates for autos, their homes, etc. But for me: I'll get a ton of money back. Only poor people spend their money so unwisely, I'll immediately invest my tax cut... I mean tax 'relief'. Works for me. (That solves the problem, right?)

Ahhh..... things are good. Even when my party loses, I win.

Ive stated earlier that Im neither republican nor democrat.

But listening to Bush almost mad scientist like all but claim "There is no global warming, and its not our concern" definately raised my eyebrow. Can anyone say, "Man of the Oil industry" ???

and to learn that Bush was against the Chip program definately mad me think twice.

I cant even fathom how this is even going to be a close race. Bush has illegal ads running, under the farce of "Ohh it was a mistake" Is slandering someone for all to hear at a rally. Has issues with the environment, and giving underpriveledged children needed health insurance. Couldnt name 99 percent of the worlds leaders in an interview. Yet its close???

I also realize that Gore has his faults. But to me seems much, much, much, much more adept at actually running the US than does bush.

Gosh you guys know how to derail a post... I'm trying to point out that Bush isn't going to help the common man.

My rock board for this year is my last year's M3 160. For the rest of the season I'll be riding the replacement board that Burton sent me for the FL I broke last year.

Why are they replacing it, water damage? I had two Morrows replaced because of that before I refused to accept another and took a K2 eldo. Still got it too, but I only ride about 20 days a season.

I went to PC last year but it was too sunny & ended up to wet after a week. Everyone told me I should have gone to snowbird.

...... Gore: "But to me seems much, much, much, much more adept at actually running the US than does Bush......"

To my mind Gore has been a politician for so long he wouldn't even know the truth, if it slapped him in the face. He is the consummate politician. That is, he is able to make excuses aand/or lie within a blink of the eye. The sorriest part is, that people allow him to do it without calling him on it.

I don't trust Gore. Plain and simple. He would say and do anything to get elected. Afetr listening to the two opponents for several months, I still have absolutely no idea what Gore would do in any situation. At least with Bush I know what he stands for, and have a clear idea he would do what is what he thought was best for this country. Gore will do whatever is best for his image.

Like I said, I just don't trust that guy.

Another thought from one of my babies.

My youngest (9 years old) happened to be sitting beside me last night while the debate was going on. She was mad that every channel had the debate on it and she only had another half hour before bed. So she did the best she could. She asked questions.

She turned to me and said.

Who is that guy?
Gore.

Who is that guy?
Bush.

What's so different about what they are saying? They sound the same.

I explained that Gore was the Vice President for eight years and that he wanted to now become President. That Bush was the Governor of Texas for eight years and he wanted to be President.

I explained that I thought it was mainly a difference in philosophy. That Bush wanted less Federal Government involvement in a lot of basic issues and, that Gore wanted the Federal Government to solve a lot of basic issues for people.

(There was a long pause.)

Molly (I call her Goober ... ah,don't ask ... ) says to me:
Well if that Gorey guy had eight years to figure it out and he hasn't, why doesn't he just go home and let that guy try?

Probably the best reason I have heard so far this election year!

she didn't ask why the one new guy kept complimenting the record of the other guy?

If Bush agrees w/ the Clinton/Gore record so much, why change?

Bingo. My thoughts exactly. 40% of his salary is taxes. He pays $60,000 in taxes. Are we supposed to not be able to figure this out? Not to mention he's so cool he decided not to work a third of the year.

Damn, he's important.

I mean, I make $16.7 million a year, but do you see me flaunting that?

(BTW, that's a joke...

... it's really more like $19 million)

Achebe,

According to the info in your post you pay per year more in taxes than I make in gross income so I think I qualify as the "common man. I think you should pay less in a percentage basis. To be really fair about taxes I think everyone who pays individual income taxes should pay the same rate regardless of how much they make. Bush's tax plan really isn't much better than Gore's in the sense that it doesn't take the government control factor out of the tax code. At least Bush's plan gives a tax break to everyone who pays taxes. Not so under Gore's plan. I don't plan on altering my lifestyle to meet any requirements to get a tax break under Gore's plan so I'll probably get nothing. No matter though. I'm happy for you in your success. I'm not jealous of you and I don't think you should pay a higher percentage than everyone else because of your success.

Frankly neither candidate has the desire or courage to do what is right. A fair system would be a single, low flat tax rate for everyone who pays an individual income tax and a single rate for corporate taxes. At just a 5% rate I would pay more FITW per year than I do now. I wouldn't mind doing so. It would solve a lot of problems and reduce the government's power to manipulate society and the economy via the tax code. It would provide a level playing field for all businesses. It would help with campaign finance reform in that tax breaks would be taken out of the political realm as a benefit for supporting a party or candidate. The reason why neither party will seriously pursue this is that the power to tax is the power to control. Neither party really wants to end the angst over April 15 every year.

I heard a guy talking today about how people don't want Bush because everything is so good (economy) but then he pointed out that gas prices have increased 33% in the last year (it was around a buck a gallon in '99 and a $1.33 this morning) and the stock market is pretty level for the year (if not down). So things are getting worse in the last year.
Go Bush!
(Note: Most of this is as silly argument but only as silly as people who think Clinton/Gore are behing the economy)

TheFreak: I apologize if my post was offensive in the slightest. I was merely trying to make a point.

I consider myself to be very lucky right now... and I consider my industry's status very shakey... so by no means do I mean to flaunt something that could crumble tomorrow.

Again, my point is that I just don't see how poor people get captivated by the sparklers that the republican party throws around "here have some money"... when the fact of the matter is (IMO) that the republican party does jack for the little guy. I think I spoke of this before, but a great book on this (and much more poetic than I could ever do w/ my apparently insulting post) is Adorno & Horkheimer's Dialectic of Enlightenment.
