I wonder how much it will cost to extend Marion. If it's reasonable (like ~$12MM/yr as opposed to the crazy money Rashard Lewis got), the Heat made out like bandits. For that matter, even if they overpay Marion they still made out like bandits.
This trade just wrecked the Suns. I LIKE ...But hey, maybe now D'Antoni will have to add in some "POST SHAQ UP" screams along with his "RUN RUN RUN RNUNRNURNRUN RNU" screams. This trade really works for all involved (cept the Suns I guess)
for some reason, i don't think someone who whined and b****ed their way off a 60 win, deep playoff run, possible championship each season team to go to a 9-40 team because they're "underappreciated" is in the business of taking pay cuts. i'm assuming he expects to at least get per year what he's making now if not have the contract start at what he's making now (like a normal extension). that would probably make it 5 yrs, 100M+, which is definitely overpaying, no matter how good he is. but hey, with their draft pick and wade and marion, they should be able to make a decent team out of that.
I don't think the Heat are going to overpay for Marion. Either they're gonna lock him up at a reasonable rate (10 million a year on average) or they'll let him walk. Getting rid of Shaq's bloated contract was the real prize for them, not the Matrix. They'll have no problems attracting top tier agents in a city like Miami, along side a healthy Wade.
Who knows if Kerr/D'Antoni were for the trade... probably were if you take their comments at face value ... but I'm sure it can be tough in general for a GM and coach when an owner initiates and makes a trade.
