It would be great to have another Super Bowl in Houston. I hope the bid is successful.

The year 2012 is a good time to host the SB since the Texans will be going for their third straight championship.

Quote:
Houston leaders are putting together a bid to host Super Bowl XVLI in February 2012, the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau said Wednesday.

If Houston is chosen, Super Bowl XVLI would be the second to be held at Reliant Park. In February 2004, Houston hosted Super Bowl XXXVIII.

The event brought more than 100,000 people to the city and resulted in an economic impact of more than $300 million, according to the GHCVB.

"In addition to having a tremendous economic impact on our hospitality industry, the Super Bowl allowed Houston to step onto the world's stage, and our hospitality industry hosted the event in magnificent fashion, as evidenced by the enormous positive media coverage," said Thomas Jones Jr., chairman of the GHCVB. "We will aggressively meet and exceed the NFL's requirements."

Note: there is a misprint in the article. 46 in Roman numerals is XLVI, not XVLI as stated in the article.

The year after Dallas? No way the NFL keeps the Bowl in Texas 2 years in a row.

I hope we get it.

Then the Texans can play two super bowls in Texas.

Then we would have to drive up that dirt path to dallas though.

Didn't McNair piss off other owners with some kind of revenue sharing issue and that supposedly is the unsaid thing the other owners are using to spite McNair in his bid for another Super Bowl in Houston?

The Super Bowl will be in Florida for 2009 and 2010, so why can't Texas have it for two years in a row as well?

If they get it, I hope they can design a halfway decent logo this time. The Super Bowl XXXVIII logo sucked major donkey balls.

I bet New Orleans gets it. They lose a home game because they are playing in London next year, plus they haven't had one since 2001.

Yes! How sweet would it be to host the LAST Super Bowl Ever!

12/21/12

(I hope someone understnads this)

Is there a specific date in 2012? If it happened then, I figured it wouldn't wait until the end of the year.

And I don't understnad your last sentence.

Doesn't it have to be in an AFC city?

The year before we hosted, San Diego did. The year after it was Jacksonville. The Super Bowl doesn't alternate sites between conferences like the MLB All Star game.

No joke. They should have just changed the "Houston" on the Super Bowl Host Committee's logo to "Super Bowl XXXVIII" and put the site and date where is says "Host Committee". That would have been a great logo.

2012 SUPER BOWL TO BE AWARDED NEXT TUESDAY
Posted by Mike Florio on May 14, 2008, 9:34 p.m.

When NFL owners gather on May 20 for a one-day business meeting in Atlanta, the primary item of business on the agenda will be a vote on the location of Super Bowl XLVI, which will be played on February 5, 2012.

The finalists are Houston, Indianapolis, and Arizona.

The next three Super Bowls will be played in Tampa, South Florida, and North Texas, respectively.

no chance in hell

won't have it in texas 2 years in a row

Indy has a brand new stadium to show off by that time

arizona is a popular SB site

other owners are pissed about McNair's stance of revenue sharing

edit: I won't say no chance, but very slim chance, I'll be pleasantly surprised if we get it

Cold-weather cities seem less likely to get a Super Bowl just because they get a new stadium. But Jimmy Irsay is apparently still popular amongst the other owners. So, if I were a betting man, I'd probably put my money on Indy.

I don't understand why Arizona is a popular Super Bowl site. The new stadium is in the middle of nowhere and Phoenix isn't actually a huge "I love the night life" kind of town. They don't even have the nice beach scene like Miami, Tampa and San Diego have going for them (other popular Super Bowl sites).

And while the Bidwills are very long-time NFL owners, they don't seem to be well-respected among the rest of the owners.

Other than predictable weather, I don't get the Arizona love.
