I've got an interview lined up on January 31st. The recruiter told me that I'd have to show up at their building and take a test. It's an HR job downtown. What kind of tests should I expect?

What jobs were you guys applying for?

I'm interviewing at a credit union for an HR job.

The person who called me did say that my resume showed that I have the education but lack the experience. Then, she proceeded to tell me about coming in to take a test.

I'm kind of nervous as I don't know what to expect on the test...maybe she meant drug test/bg check? Any advice?

when i applied for Carmax a few years ago, they had take a stupid psych test that asked the same questions 10 different ways. i guess they wanted to see how honest you were.

the damn thing took an hour before i even interviewed.

Nothing is worst than having to wait until getting your security clearance as I am right now. It's been almost 7 months since I accepted my job offer and I still haven't started working yet...

i'll just say this. don't bitch about 7 months. Not even close to how long "some people" have to wait

Is it a government clearance or private sector? If gov't, I have a friend who is going on 3 years now. They even made him reapply last year in case anything had changed in terms of his contacts and such. It's absurd. My advice: whatever you do, don't put your life on hold waiting for it. It may come tomorrow, it may come in 4 years. It's absolutely one of the worst examples of government bureaucracy.

The only tests that I've had to do were more like projects that had to be turned in some time after the interview.

It is a government clearance. I finally submitted my comleted application, via the company I'll be working for (NGC), mid-December. I accepted the job offer I back in August. The government investigation just started to call my contacts and setup an interview time, etc. last week, so hopefuly I'm nearing the final stages.

They told me back in August that the entire process, background check and clearace could take between 6 and 8 months. So I gues it is taking the normal amount of time. The hard part is that I haven't found another "respectful" job during this time.

Pre-employment "tests" are dehumanizing.
