Whenever you have to listen to Rockets on the go, you always have the voice of the Rockets! I'm talking about AM Rockets Radio broadcaster Gene Peterson! To give play by play commentary that is so vivid and enthusiastic deserved to be commended. When he retires, he will be missed. Gene even makes free throws sound exciting. Sometimes when Calvin is too much, I watch the T.V. with the radio broadcasting instead b/c it's better most of the time. Don't get me wrong, Calvin is a great T.V sport broadcaster, but he's silly at times. Anyway, this post is just to give credit to one of the most respectable radio broadcasters of all time (in my opinion). Great memories. "He shakes n' bakes" "Olajuwon blows right past Ostertag!" "Cat for three. Got it!!!" "How sweet it is!" "Barkley, left side angle, takes it to the low post, banks it off the glass and IN!!!" "Eddie at the buzzer... YEAHHHH!" "The Houston Rockets are World Champions" By the way, any additional quotes that help bring back memories are welcome! ------------------
I dont know why Calvin usually gets a bad rap on this board (not talking about u rock). But I love Calvin, no matter how silly he gets. He is one of the best things Rockets have ------------------ Fun Police Says: 1. Stupid threads & Stupid BBS names are not FUN! 2. When I lived in Houston, I would turn down the sound on the TV and turn up the sound on the sterio, because Gene Peterson's commentary was the only inteligent commentary being made. I still have a tape of Gene going nuts when Vernon made that last second shot against Miami, I beleive, in a regular season game back in 94'. I just had a premonition that something special was going to happen, and it did. Peterson went nuts. It warms my heart every time I listen to that tape. I also taped the waining moments of game 7 of the 94' series for posterity's sake. What a time! ------------------ Sometimes I think I'd be better off dead. No, wait, not me...you.
Gene Peterson, screaming at the top of his lungs after Sampson's shot against LA put the Rockets in the '86 finals: WE'RE GOING TO BOSTON! WE'RE GOING TO BOSTON! ------------------ Save our children from the TAAS test: TAAS test report card TAAS test fact sheet
I have always been a fan of GP and his sidekick, Jim Foley. GP is the voice of the Rockets. I can't stand to listen to Bill and Calvin. Bill is better off doing baseball and Calvin is not that great. I too, turn the TV sound down and listen to the radio. There's no topping Gene and Jim. Can't wait till the 00-01 season... Go Rockets... see ya in the chat room on game nights! rockHEAD ------------------ *** THIS SPACE FOR LEASE ***

I will give everyone 5 more hours to answer my trivia question: Who was the Houston Rockets announcer before Gene Peterson?
