Well, Last night, I was awoken to a loud crash. I went downstairs and, sure enough, someone had hit my car and taken off. There was a guy on the street that said he saw it happen, and was able to get a rough make of the car, along with the License plate #. I filed a police report within 30 minutes. The cop told me that I would have a detective call me, but he didn't sound much like it would do any good. Anybody have any idea as to why? Is it really that difficult to locate a vehicle when you get the license plate? I thought it would be a slam dunk with an eyewitness.
Happened to me and I got the plates too. Nothing happened. Even when I was told that the plates pulled up an owner with a warrant out for his arrest. I had a witness and a piece of the guys car that broke off when he hit me. Nothing. Cops.
I'm sure he had only had about 8 beers and was perfectly fine driving until he reached over to steady his open bottle of Jack Daniels and then accidently swirved into your car. Give him a break, could have happened to anyone.
ever had a wallet stolen? police dont do ****, even i can track my recent transactions, why cant the cherry tops do anything? they're lame hit and runs probably are even worse, file a police report, get it fixed, pay the deductable and move on bud
not much will happen. I had a hit and run and someone witnessed it with his car make and license plate. From what I remember, they located the guy and "tried to contact him", but never could get a hold of him...case closed I wanted the F-er to at least be inconvenienced with some type of investigation of court summons...but no, no one cares about a hit and run unless someone is hurt
Yeah. That's what I don't get. I would figure if you have the plates and an eyewitness, it should be a slam-dunk for a detective to handle. There's $2000-3000 worth of damage, if I had to guess.
I had experience with one where I had no information on the other guy, and clearly nothing happens then. But given a license plate, I definnitely assumed everything would be done. I don't know for sure, but maybe if you hire a lawyer he can help push it along somehow? Get the info from the cops and go after the guy? Probably not worth it, but I guess that's a way to actually get things moving.. (btw, I came into this thread thinking 50/50 on the chances that FFB was the driver vs. the one who got hit..)
Oh baby. The regular police will not do a thing about this. However, it appears that the Karma police did their job.
use publicdata.com to find out who owns the car and their address. Go find the car and then take pictures of the damage on their car. Leave them a note asking whether or not they want to pay for your damage or if they'd rather you get your friend in the DA's office to press criminal charges. More than likely, they were just drunk and didn't want a DWI.....being sober might make them act a bit more rationally.
Tell your insurance agent, track that person down through your agent and take photos, etc. Police won't care, but your insurance agent will care!
How does that site work? It looks like they're asking for my info rather than allowing me to look up someones.
Or does anyone here know of anyone who could look up the address of someone through a License plate #? I would prefer to do something like Pole suggested.
One would think the insurance company, who would have to pay for the damages, would care. I wonder if a tort lawyer would care, too.
