Well I feel like a real schmuck! I was in line today at Starbucks to get my $3.50 Mocha Frapp. When I got up to the windows, I was told friom the attendant at the window that the person ahead of me bought my drink...part of some Pay it Forward thing going on. I was on my cell and kinda distracted at the same time. The lady at the windows said the chain was something like 20 cars long. What did I do? I just said "Thank you" and drove off with my free coffee. Oh well....free coffee I guess! Besides, I was going to pay $3.50 for my coffee...who knows how many drinks would have been in the SUV behind me. I might have spend $30...screw that!
i've never heard of that before and i probably would have done the same thing. congrats on the free coffee!
I have to admit I have a Starbucks gift card also....I would never normally spend almost $4 on a freaking cup of coffee anyway. So I got a free coffee and STILL have my $25 gift card. Nice huh?
Here is how it would go with me in line: Employee - Your drink is complimentary because the person in front of you paid for it. You are under no obligation...you can take your free drink or pay for the person behind you. Smokey - Lady I ****in hate Starbucks. I'm only here because some douchebag gave me a giftcard. You want me to put their drinks on my gift card? Sure. But first may I slap you with my ****? Employee - Uhh...no! Smokey - No thanks. Have a great day!
This has also happened at other Starbucks around the country. I first heard about it on the news the other day. http://www.nbc6.net/news/14850129/detail.html?rss=ami&psp=news
That's an interesting idea. But I guess the person behind you is just stuck with whatever the hell you order? I don't understand how that works.
A long time ago I was at a toll station and wasn't paying attention that there was a guy in front of me at the gate. When I paid, the gate lifted, he drove through and I was stuck at the gate. The guy behind me did what I did. How long that "Pay it Backward Line" lasted is a mystery.
