When I moved to the Hill Country, I started getting allergies I didn't know I had (but only in the winter months). I took Claritin (or the HEB generic equivalent) every day during the winter and I was fine.

there are side effects that are minor. There is no toxicity to the liver or kidneys. If you have good liver function as this is the primary method of metabolism you will also keep a safe/therapeutic level in your system.

    I'm only a 2nd year medical student...why didn't you ask your doctor?

I've been on claritin every day for something like 10-15 years and I have not seen any problems. If you still have problems, you should consider adding FloNase. Those 2 together work like miracle drugs for me.

was funny that i thought i am not allergic to anything. after they put all the needles in me, they found out that i am allergic to cats, trees, grass, ragweed, dust mites. ouch. it's been more than a day, i still have like 10 red dots on my arms from those test spots :D

If you're originally from the Houston area, you're probably allergic to clean air...

If you have good insurance and an hour twice a week to spend at the Allergist, you can take allergy shots for a couple of years and get over them.

Actually it's only twice a week for a couple of months and then once a month for the next couple of years.

Check and see if you antigen vials are covered first. My shots are covered but I have to buy my antigen  ... and since I am allergic to everything on Earth the vials run around $1400 a year.

As I have written on this site, I am allergic to molds and had mold growing in my sinuses which led to chronic Fungal Allergic Sinusitus and 3 surgeries. I had quit my shots during the 18 months of surgeries so I had to start over.

Also I'm allergic to bermuda grass...you know...golf courses..so I really had no choice.
