As promised, the other guys:

1. Hillary. I think one of those aliens from the Simpsons really did take over her body. That is the only explanation for her choppy, monotone delivery. I swear her whole speech was only two sentences. "Bill. worked. hard. to. do. good. things. so. will. Al. vote. for. me. in. New. York."
Ugh, I was writhing in pain. At least Laura Bush had an excuse.

Her speech was a pile of menure. It was insincere and used all of those horrible cliches. It was coherent, unlike Laura B.'s, but it was coherent drivel. Her ending thank you even seemed forced - not sincere.

What was the deal with all of the cleaning up our music and tv's - a precursor to that great fan of censorship Tipper Gore?

2. Apparently Barbara Streisand is really important because the cameramen seemed infatuated with her.

3. I dod not understand the long corridor walking thing in HDTV by Clinton.

4. Clinton is amazing. I have never seen someone as comfortable and skilled in this type of situation as him. He even pulls off the trite stuff, because it sure seems sincere. "Buy my soda," said the moose diarrhea salesman.

He sure does like to talk. He had the advantage because he is still the president and can do anything he wants - nobody will cut him off. He took advantage of his time.

There were, however, a few times he seemed to stray from the path and repeat himself unneccesarily- perhaps due to his ad libbing.

This speech was similar to Colin Powells in that it had little to do with the presidential candidate. Both had to do more with the party - Powell urging a direction, Clinton speaking of its accomplishments.

Despite its length, it was a good, and successful speech. The problem is, Gore cannot do better. He has so little personality and charisma. He will still be like a stranger when he gives his speech - and after.

5. I enjoyed the sparse coverage of the protest outside and the RATM concert. Jennings did such a great job saying that they were raging against all kinds of things. Someone (can't rember which channel) went so far as to say that there were som "self-proclaimed anarchists" in the crowds. Ooh, scary. Luckily, they reported, they had not been too bad and caused too much violence.

There sure were a lot of people protesting, though. It could get ugly, as not everyone there will have good intentions.

Excellent summary.

Clinton does give a good talk -- even if you don't believe half of what he says, he makes you want to.

They did say on the news that there were "incidents" where police were forced to use tear gas and rubber bullets. I imagine most of the press was concentrated around the Staples Center / Convention. We'll probably hear more about this civil disobedience tomorrow.

Well, I am going to miss Clinton big time. Not because of his speech. Its because to me he was a great president. And most of America agrees.

Also, he brought out some points about the Republicans that I had forgotten. For example, they did say that they didn't want to be responsible for the damage that the Democrats were going to do to the economy if the balance budget amendment passed. I think it was Gingrich who led that argument. And now they don't want to give the credit. I also loved the line about bringing his cabinet to the stage to show true diversity representation and that it wasn't all staged like the Republicans.

But, like I said about the Republican Convention, this was all a show. I really hate this stuff. Clinton made it better because I am a big fan of his presidency. And I have a funny feeling that once Bush gets in(and he will because Gore is a stiff), or if by some miracle Gore gets in, I think we are going to miss this guy even more.

How popular is Clinton in the US? He is so popular that because of his shadow, Gore will not get the attention he deserves. And Bush will sneak in through the back door. Its like when Olajuwon use to draw all the triple teams while Elie killed the other team for 20 points. Its that big of a shadow.

Can you believe that Clintons approval rating is 24 points higher than Reagans during his last speech at the Rep Convention in 1988? Thats big time approval.

Enough talking. Bring on the debates already.

I give Clinton credit for signing off on 7 of the 10 Contract with America items, including the balanced budget.

Learned from a CNN reporter that the people running the convention had expicit quotas: so many whites, blacks, Hispanics, Asians, Native Americans, women, people with disabilities, and so on. Surprised they didn't have a couple of homeless people on their quota list. Unstaged true diversity, unlike the other guys.

Do agree that compared to Clinton, Gore and Lieberman are going to be even more pathetic than Dole, and the Elephants will hammer this again and again.

VERY IRONIC

RIght in the middle of Clinton's speech saying how good the past 8 years have been, listing all the accomplishments, improvements, etc,etc there is a big case of civil disobedience going on outside. Its pretty ironic---like rain on your wedding day

Um...

I watched CNN until just now and I didn't hear anything about a "quota".

But, I guess the Republicans are for the minorities. I mean, look at their outstanding record when it comes to welfare, education, college loan programs and the such.

And of course the Democrats have a quota percentage for each nationality. Didn't the Republicans have one also? I think it was 95 percent white, 2 percent black, 1 percent for Latinos, 1 percent for Native Americans, .04% for disabled people, .03% for the Asians, and .03% for the homeless.

Oh, my bad. I forgot about the one gay Congressman who they had graciously speak about "foreign trade" and of course prayed for and promptly booed off stage.

Brilliant strategy on Clinton/Democrats part to have a bunch of nationalities in his cabinet hoping that America would one day reflect the people he appointed. Then, if one day America becomes a diverse or if (God forbid) minorities make up the majority, he could take credit for...lets say...being the first president to have a Latin American Secretary of Education and they can then show her mug over and over so that it would say to the American voters to vote for the Democrats because they are the "true inclusive party".

If only the Republicans thought of that strategy, they would of never lost in the first place.

Anyways...

I watched alot of the convention "after analysis" and I just have to say can the Democrats get off Clintons jock? I mean damn! He gave a good speech and all, but they need to focus on Gore or he will lose by more than 30 points. And every Democrat talked about anything but the issues that still need fixing. And all the damn money raised by the entertainers is just ridiculous. You mean to tell me that they are using this money for just strictly campaigning? Not. Totally ruining the system.

And the Republicans continue to talk about Monica Lewinsky. I guess they are hanging their hat on that since they can't touch him on anything else.

Rain on your wedding day isn't ironic. Its just unfortunate.

Now if you're a meteorologist, marrying another meteorologist, and you scheduled your marriage on this day because you both were sure it wouldn't rain. And it did rain, that would be ironic.

Wow, still think Clinton's more popular than Reagan?

Almu, remind me again: why did the Republicans shut the government down again...? What piece of legislation was it that Clinton refused to sign?

I will give you a hint, since CNN won't: it's the same piece of legislation that Clinton is claiming so much credit for.

As for Clinton's steady management of the economy, here is an interesting piece of evidence you might want to look at (though I'm sure you'll dismiss it as coincidental):

One more salient point to underscore that graphic: are you aware that the economy had experienced eighteen months of growth before Clinton took office?

This thread, like the last one, is just supposed to be about the convention. Why must it always get muddied down to, "my party is better!" "No, my party is better!"

Why isn't it possible to examine something without personal biases getting in the way?

To cover some of your points...

Lieberman said on Fox news Sunday that they really had a racial quota for the delegates.

The only people that "prayed" for the congressman was about 14 members of the Texas delegation. I did not know that having someone pray for you was a bad thing.

If Clinton is inclusive then why were the only members of his cabinet and staff to take a drug screen were the African-American staffers?

The reason that the Republicans lost the White House can be summed up in 2 words:

That graphic came from the Wall Street Journal and was pointed out to me via email from a friend who is a Boortz fan.

Oh, right-- so when they post a graphic showing the growth of the Dow Jones industrial average, the rise of the 30-year Treasury Bond, and they include the years in which Clinton took office and the GOP took over Congress, that's too right-wing for you.

That is factual data. There is no spin to it. The DJIA and the Treasury Bond's value have risen more quickly since the Republicans took over Congress.

If you don't like facts, then you're living in a fantasy world-- you might as well deny gravity exists. Tell you what. Try holding a plate over your head, then drop it, and tell me if it falls.
