Religion Threads vs. Political Threads

It is a strange world, indeed.

I have noticed that when politics are discussed, even if non-partisan at first, things can get nasty about which side is better.

Interestingly enough, it seems all of the religion threads stayed away from this. Sure, there were differences in opinions, but people generally refrained from implying that the other side was stupid, or other insults.

The political threads are filled with various rude comments, mocking tones, and personal attacks.

I find this interesting because, supposedly, religion is much more important. If you beleive in God, that is more important than supporting the Democrats. If you do not beleive in good, that should be a firmer beleif than not supporting a flat tax.

The world can survive without Democrats or Republicans. If you beleive in theology, the world would not exist without God.

I think that politics is becoming a lot like sports. Their are fans with "we're better than you" cheers. There is a "good" side amnd a "bad" side. Much like the olympics, contests are held every two years, with different people taking their chances in different games.

The presidential election is more like the Summer Olympics because more people watch and it is more intereting.

Does a Republican Rocket fan (say that 5 times quickly) hate Bill Clinton or John Stockton more? Who has the better stats?

People wear the logos of their respective candidates and their respective teams.

The primaries are like the conference finals.

Bill Bradley was the Blazers. McCain was the Knicks. Of course, these two could switch, depending on which remaining candidate becomes the Lakers.

The Finals are only 3 months away!

Excellent analysis.

I do not know why the political threads become so antagonistic. It could be the tone of the times, or it could be more heated since we are so close to a Presidential election. I don't know. I do know that I have been one of the antagonizers. For that I apologize.

I can't wait until Rockets season starts so we'll have something to talk about that we ALL have in common! Let the real games begin!

I think we're the exception rather than the rule seeing how people's feelings about God have probably killed more people than anything else in the history of man.

Faith is a key component to believing in God. We can only see God's works in nature, life, etc. To believe in something that cannot be touched or seen is a difficult concept for alot of people. That does not make them any less moral or good than a person who believes. God is many things to many people.

I like to mimic GOD's work by lighting ants on fire to see what will happen.... over and over again.

I put forth the notion that people are more respectful when it comes to god threads. Mainly because it is such a subjective issue. No one really knows the answers. Hence, we are more forgiving when discussing her.

Now political threads are something different all together. People tend to believe that they "know" the answers and will chastise those that think differently.

I know I'm for gun control, a woman's right to chose, et al, but I don't know that god does or does not exist, and if it did, how does it effect me.

I agree to some degree, but not completely.

There are a great many people who feel that they know for a fact that God exists (or does not). For all intents and purposes, then, God really does exist for some. You may take your logical agnostic view that you are not really sure and cannot know in life, but others do not.

Additionally, politics can be just as subjective. Who really knows if X economic policy (or X social policy) will really work? Most people will support it just because their party promotes it.

For what you listed, sure, they are your views, but what makes them right? Your belief is what does. Who is to say that the opposite of each point would not actually make the country better off?

Of course, what is "better"? But that is a different argument that does not need to be brought up.

So, basically, I agree, but disagree.
