I had to reinstall Windows on my comp this weekend and since I am starting brand new... what are the "must have' downloads for my comp, in terms of security and comp performance? I know there was an earlier thread about this same topic, but I cannot find it...lock this if need be thanks
winrar.. divx..xvid..AIM..Torrentmanager program (i use utorrent)..Office..adobe acrobat reader..music player like itunes/winamp..
You can't keep that in your PC... you gotta USE IT and LOSE IT. No one likes stale pr0n. non-work: a torrent downloader while you're at work, remote access to your PC while at work, etc. work-related: nothing.

Spybot Ad-Aware TrendMicro.com O&O Defrag Winrar Registry Mechanic Firefox Azureus VLC Media Player AIM iTunes Full Tilt Poker Don't get Norton or some sort of anti-virus and/or firewall. All they do is slow your computer down. Just run a check once a week. If some hacker wants to get into your system, Norton or some other crap like that is not going to stop them.
forget download aim, msn, yahoo or w/e you use just use www.meebo.com you can get on all of them at once in a browser window
See the signature below. Also, I recommend: Pidgin, Filezilla, Launchy, SciTE (or notepad2, whatever you prefer), Really Slick Screensavers, Various MS Powertoys, irfanview, TweakUI, KLite Codec Pack, Foxit PDF Reader, PDF Creator, Taskbar Shuffle, Allsnap, 7-zip
Also, WindowBlinds is awesome (and if you choose to pay for the full version, that is even more worth it).
its not a good idea not to have real time virus protection, if you wait till its already done its thing its far too late.
