The event was held on September 27, 2007, at Root Memorial Park located directly in front of Toyota Center. On September 27, several hundred new season ticket holders ended the summer with a wave of fun! A Hawaiian themed luau took place at Root Memorial Park; personally hosted by Shane Battier. Season ticket holders and their families spent the evening getting up close and personal with Battier as he led the children in a basketball skills clinic and competed against the adults in an intense game of Knockout. While the guests enjoyed a buffet of island themed foods; they were entertained by Hawaiian flame throwers, Hula dancers, a Hawaiian band, Clutch the Bear and Rockets Power Dancers. Battier joined in on the fun as he learned moves from the hula dancers and picked up a few words in the native Hawaiian tongue. The night concluded with guests getting the opportunity to get an autograph and have a photo taken with Battier and the hula girls, a perfect way for them to celebrate the summer ending and the new season beginning. I actually went here through a friend of a friend. It was chill, nice and relaxed. Shane is always Mr. Charisma.
