I didn't know if I should but this here or in the NBA forum, but since there was a Thibodeau article here before, I figured it could be moved if necessary. There is a picture of Yao, Falsone and Thibodeau with the article. http://celticsgreen.blogspot.com/2007/08/tom-thibodeau-defensive-guru.html There's more on the blog, but I didn't think it was necessary to post it all.
I don't mind him going there. There's not much you can do with that squad to make them a danger on D. Aging vets aren't going to kill themselves on that end, and a scrub's a scrub. Now that Brian Scalabrine is being coached by TT.....he'll still suck. Tony Allen's a good scrappy defender if he heals up, but is he even going to see 10 mpg behind Pierce & Allen? Evan
This Celtics talk is nonsense!I mean ppl predict them in the Finals and they didn't even played one single game.Tom was good but JVG era is OVER.Goodbye.
Nice article, I didn't know anything about Thibs background when he was with the Rockets. For those that don't have the time or inclination to read it. It gives a little bit of the background of Tom. He graduated from a Mass. school Salem State where it seems he was a pretty decent athlete, enough to be inducted into the CT Sports Hall of Fame. He coached the Harvard basketball team also and it looks like this is a home coming for Thib's returning to his old New England stomping grounds. Also, the reason given for him not accepting the Wiz job was he was under the impression that he was going to get the head assistant job there as he had in Houston but he didn't. Good move for the Celts, asst coaches don't have the impact a head coach has on a team's ability to win but Thib is an asst of the first caliber.
Yeah, as much as they like Doc, I can see this being a transition to giving Tom T the head coaching position. They have the pieces to make a run, but they need someone coaching that knows what he's doing.
great situation for tom. i'm happy he found a spot. also, great hire by the C's. with tom as a defensive coordinator i think they have a chance to almost live up to all the hype. don't get me wrong, i think they will be a fine team, but they only won 23 (or so) games last season. allen and KG may add 10-15 wins each (which is a lot) and that only brings them to the high 40's or low 50's. AVERAGE. they will win thier division (probably) and earn HC in the playoffs. they can most likely make it out of the first round with just thier stars. the second round is where hiring tom really helps them. they need to match the great defensive teams like the pistons, bulls, and cavs. if they match thier defense, but have greater options on offense, i believe they can win at least one more series until thier bench (or lack there of) comes back to haunt them.
We could've been in the finals last year already. The leagues needs to do something about the playoffs format honestly.
Anyway good luck to Thibodeau, he has alway been looking for a chance to become a head coach of a NBA team. Celtics provided a better chance.
Boston and Orlando are now my picks. Both now will play JVG defense. I'd pick Boston to win the East.
