Check out this interview done today during a break at McGrady's camp: http://www.click2houston.com/video/13706940/index.html He talks about a wide variety of subjects including a very funny look back at a young TMac. He starts off talking about Game 7 and how he was exhausted and admits to this being the first time he's told anybody about it.
I was particularly interested in the bit about going from Coach Van Gundy to Coach Adelman. It sounds like he's excited about the change. He didn't come out and say it, but I got the impression that he had grown tired of JVG. He also said the Bonzi situation last year was solely about JVG and Bonzi not getting along. Interesting.
He was exhausted? I am not suprised because there certainly wasn't any substitution going on in that playoff series cause we had such a short bench.
wow you read a lot into that. he said, "unfortunately him and coach had some differences." yes shocking news. he didn't say that's solely the reason he didn't play and he's certainly not gonna come out and say maybe bonzi should have gotten himself in shape so when he did play he didn't look slow and terrible. considering t-mac LOVED jvg and wanted him back when the season was over i find it highly unlikely he grew tired of him. that said i do get the impression that his talks with adelman have led him to like the change at this point.
I have yet to see if but please I hope I dont hear... "Well i think [Insert newly acquired talent's name here] is the type of player we need to get us over the top as a contender. [Insert newly acquired talent's here] will take some of the pressure off of Yao and myself" He said that about Swift and then the next year against bonzi. Please dont say that again its cursed.
exhaustion in a game 7, biggest game of your life tracy? goodness. that crap better just be an excuse.
but after watching the entire vid, i still see that tmac has a lot of confidence in himself and the team. but until that ball isn't in his hands 90% of the time, we're not gonna go nowhere. hopefully that'll change. and he def. looks to be in great shape before his all-out workouts starting in late july.
Come on man, he is a human being. He was literally doing EVERYTHING for the team at the time. Dishing out tons of assists, scoring, playing great defense, and handling the ball the vast majority of the time. Not to mention creating points for the entire team (except Yao). He was in high gear the entire game, but his body just literally gave out it seems like. Maybe this is a sign he should work on his conditioning OR its a sign that we need a deeper bench/a coach who is willing to go deeper into his bench during the regular season so that they are ready come playoff time. The exciting thing is all three have been addressed this year with Tmac being healthy, Coach A comin in, and some SOLID offseason acquistions. I really hope I don't eat my words but I feel that we will go much deeper this year.
i understand, i was just sayin it sarcastically. but like i said, tmac had the HIGHEST usage rating of ANY player last yr, more than kobe, wade, lebron or any other superstar. what that means was tmac was counted on to do the most out of any player in the L b/c the ball was in his hands more htan any other player in the L. hopefully adelman will change that. he needs to be finishing, not creating.
was kinda thinking the same thing... Yeah.........but I look at it like this Lebron James had to carry a bunch of nobodies against the heavily favored Pistons in a double over time game and he got the job done.....fatigue will set in, because like you said "he is human", but that's when all the greats find some way to dig a little deeper and pull it out.
tmac's conditioning was very poor last yr considering the back problems he faced after 05-06 season. in every other playoff series that he has been in, he has alway played superb the whole series.
Yes, he should've held it down for the entire team. He should've rebounded for Yao, passed for Rafer and scored enough for the entire bench. What a gutless and selfish prick.
