Hey guys, some guys I know started a new search engine called irazoo.com. It's a cool idea...combination revenue-sharing and "social" search engine.
Basically, you search as usual and, if you'd like, vote to recommend or not recommend the site. The search engine then ranks using user votes...A "people's" search engine, if you will.
In exchange for votes/searches, users are rewarded with points, which are redeemable for gifts like iPods, flash drives, etc...
Anyways, give it a try and let me know what you think.
iRazoo
Edit: Forgot to add...These guys are from Houston, help some hometown kids out!

LOL, it can't be too great since it's blocked at work as a "Pay to Surf" website.

1 Indian came up with the idea and hired 3 Indian software engineers to design it. There was a whole article on this in the Chronicle a few weeks back.
I'm sticking with Google.

It's new, and this search engine more than others relies on time and a large user base for its effectiveness.
More than anything, I just wanted y'all to let me know what you thought of the site, features, and all.
I actually only know them because of the site...I'm helping them find funding, and right now they need user feedback more than anything.
So I'd really appreciate it if y'all just looked around the site a little(Vote Clutchfans up!)...thanks!

you can only get 50 points a day
example- if you want a 1gb ipod nano- 58,000 points
58,000 points / 50 points a day = 1,160 days
in 3.178 years you will finally be able to get that 1gb ipod
so if your searching this site for free stuff, forget it

redefined...just wondering...why the emphasis on Indian? I use google, but it has nothing to do with the ethnicity of google's designers.
I'm not saying your reason does either...it was just a really weird way of saying it.
Khal80, it's true...I've stressed it to them...the reward system needs much revamping. Right now, they're banking on the combination of a better search + rewards will lure users.

Sorry, but does the internet really need ANOTHER search engine? What % of people use Google and Yahoo and aren't going to switch?

I thought that post stuck out as (possibly unintentionally) racist. Maybe it was not meant that way.

haha, no no nothing like that. He said help out the hometown kids. They really aren't from Houston and they aren't kids. That was my only point. I was going to come back and edit the post during my lunch break.
I am not going to use it because I think it's a stupid way to use a search engine. The thumb views of the website it useless because I can't really make out anything. If someone found one particular site useful, how does that necessarily mean that I will find what I'm looking for based on that one vote??
They wanted to make something that would rival Google and "revolutionize the way we search."
I have never had problems with Google and won't stop now.
And it definitely was not a racist statement because I read the article in the Indo-American Newspaper (in the end they credited the Houston Chronicle so knew that's where it came from). But I definitely know that it came out the wrong way...

I don't agree with the other guy who talked about the thumb preview. When you put your mouse on the picture of the website, it opens up a bigger preview window of the actual website (you can actually click around in it!). That is really cool and I haven't seen that anywhere else. I don't think the other guy put his mouse over the thumb preview.
Also, at least I get something from this site, Google doesn't give me jack for all the time and money I make them. I don't know why everyone else is in love with them. The search results on iRazoo are just as good. You guys need to remember the other sites haven't given us anything, ever. I have used google for years and never got anything. If I use iRazoo, at least I get a sd card in 6 months! What has google have given any of us?? Google made billions last year and didn't share a dime with any of us!!!
I think the concept of the recommended feature makes alot of sense and eventually millions of people will refine the results to give all of us the best results. Right now google and msn and the rest gives billions of results, most of which have nothing to do with what I typed in. I can see how this feature will give everyone better results in the long run. This site is like a search engine mixed with Wikipedia, and it makes alot of sense.
p.s. Just cause you a minority doesn't mean you are not a Houstonian. We all root for the rockets and none of them were born in Houston. That guy is crazy.

I think its a little too bloated for my tastes..too much going on at once.
Google is simple and elegant..why do I need anything from them? They provide a free service that I tend to like
also the name sucks too

its an interesting concept and if enough people use it then the recommendation part could be helpful. However, its a little clunky since people want searching to be without many strings. the point system gives you incentive for searching, but ultimately your main incentive for searching is to get exactly what you are searching for in the least amount of time.
the preview webpage is useful and is probably the most enticing part of the program. the rest, i'm not so interested in.
Is there a list that says what you can redeem your points for? what is the lowest prize? also where does it say you can only get 50 points a day? if it takes you 3 years to get a nano, that is more scammy than those "punch a jesus and get a free ipod" banner ad.
and zearnold, just fyi, it comes of as unprofessional to bash your competition when you are putting up a new product. it just comes off as juvenile and does not coerce people to using your product if they think the creators are petty people. Proper covert word-to-mouth advertising is most effective when you convince others that your product has advantages, not when you say that your competition is worse. That's an automatic red flag that basically tells everyone you are a pumper.
