That is an outstanding move by Simmons and Green. It wasn't done for taxes or for publicity. Simmons just likes to use his talents to help others. These are the kind of players the Houston Texans want and that the fans should be proud to root for, regardless of wins and losses.

wait..what?? simmons feels like he has enough??? that's crazy, right??? it's america! i mean, it's a business, right...and you gotta get yours, right???

jason simmons is my new hero. these programs that help single parents get new homes are absolutely incredible. they go a long way towards reversing cycles of poverty that people get stuck in. and help to make a better life for their children.

    Unbelievable and wonderful

Simmons is my new favorite player.

Not only does he give the money to charity, he says he has plenty of money and does not care what number he has as long as he plays.

What a refreshing change of pace as compared to some of the other players in the NFL or even pro sports in general.

Your right this is a "real hero", not some punk like Mike Vick. Max I have heard you say you have a son and I'm sure he looks up to these players this is one guy who's jersey you should get for him because he gets it.

Jason Simmons and Green are the anti Roger Clemens.

Even though he sucks at football I have a lot of new found respect for the man.

He's insulting the performance of the man, not the man. You might suck at basketball. If someone points it out, don't take that as an insult (unless you truly don't suck at basketball).

For example: David Carr sucks at NFL QB. Sucks. Hard. That's not an insult to him.

    the lithmus test, as always:
would you tell him that to his face? if the answer is no, then it's an insult.

Yes, I certainly would. He has, to this point, been horrible as an NFL QB and it can only hurt him if he isn't honestly self-evaluating. But, I would probably word it differently, and that lends credence to your point. I suppose facts can be "insulting" when presented in an offensive manner.

I see what your sayin, but lets be real here, if the man is in the national football league, he obviously does not suck at football, just sucks by nfl standards.

First and foremost, excellent move by Green/Simmons =)

This got me thinking though... What NFL player has made the most money from selling his jersey number? And who has sold their jersey number the most number of times? Those would be some interesting stats to find out.

If this story is any indication, the answer to both questions might just be Giants punter Jeff Feagles. Got a Florida vacation for his family from Eli Manning for #10 and an outdoor kitchen addition to his new house from Plaxico Burress for #17.
