Not sure how many people have used OnStar before, but my "free 1 year" is up next month and I am debating whether or not to renew it. My experiences with them havent been great, they seem to be pretty useless, but im sure as soon as I cancel it for some reason I will regret it. I think the new plans are like 16.99 a month for basic service....any thoughts

In the age of cell phones, I still haven't quite figured out what the purpose of OnStar really is. I know they've come out with the diagnostic testing of your vehicle -- but still, it seems useless overall. I remember my parents having it and I thought "OK -- maybe I'd pay 16.99 a year for this, not a month."

Never understood the point of this service. How often do you lock your keys in your car?
Let's see, I get in a wreck, grab my cellphone, call Onstar, have them call 911.

I don't think you "call onstar" I think you just push a button. It can also be used to get directions and as a lojack type security system. If you have a nice car it's probably worth the $200 a year.

I'd rather have a cell phone and GPS. I have better uses for $200/yr.

Or a navigation unit - either OEM or stock.

No, that's when you call OnStar to unlock your vehicle from the inside.
