Either or both Alston/Head + Battier +Sura expiring and call every team in the league (except dallas) and see what a Head/Battier/Sura package could have gotten us as far as upgrade at pg or pf or sf. Id do a Tj Ford , or Rashard lewis or Anderson Verjeho . Id even want Mike James back.

This isnt a reaction after the celtics game. Its a I want to see a championship and I just think since Head is so young teams value him but I honestly dont think hes that good, and I dont think hes going to improve. I think Battiers defense is overrated and he cant create a shot. I dont see why everyone likes Hayes so much. I swear atleast once a game he misses a easy layup or tip in. If this team drafted Paul Millsap instead of Novak they could have a starting pf in Millsap. This team is the same as two years ago when Dallas beat them in the playoffs, if not worse.

No. Shane Battier is too valueable to our team. Unless we get a superstar in return - we aren't giving up Battier.

Head can be a great shooter - so what if yesterday was his off night... everyone has their off nights.

Rafer Alston is our only true PG - so unless we could have gotten a good pg in return - we aren't going to trade him.

What i love about this forum is whenever we lose there is either a "Fire JVG" thread, "Rafer sucks" thread or "Let's trade _____ " thread.

I agree there is a hole in the PG position, but trading Head? He had a couple of bad games, he has his limitations, so what? His game will be much better when Yao gets back. And you are talking about a guy who saved us from Orlando. Seriously you are out of your mind. He is a perfect role player on this team. So is Battier, even he didn't show up in the two loses recently. We will be fine once 111 get back. I do agree though, unless both Tmac and Yao play out of their mind, the trophy is going to somebody else this year.

If you think Shane Battier's D is overratted you haven't been watching all the games this season, hell even last nite on Pierce's turn around 3, Battier played excellent D, Pierce just made a hell of a shot.

As for the trade idea, aside from Mike James (maybe), I don't think there was a player out there that would have made a huge impact on our team

You've got the right thread title, but the wrong players to trade. Sura's expiring? Yes. Head? Tougher call than people like to admit. Alston? You need a backup point guard now, so hard to trade the future backup. Battier? Definitely not.

So whether they had the assets (Sura, 1st rounder, possibly Bonzi) to make a trade people can debate. They clearly tried to get Mike James, despite ridiculous spin and downplay from the Rafer apologist camp... so they know there is a problem. Still, it's very unfortunate that they couldn't improve the team this season given the opportunity that they have.

If the Rockets do fall in the playoffs, I just hope they don't overvalue what they have around Yao, T-Mac and (to a slightly lesser extent) Battier) again.

Don't forget if Francis gets bought out by Thursday, we can still take a low risk peek at him.

If Bonzi has a good playoff series, he may be more valuable than a backup PG. Hopefully we can re-sign Bonzi to be our 3d scoring option and sign James or Francis as our new starting PG next year.

Battier's D is overated! He is great at getting in the lane on the break and taking a charge/flop but that is about it. He can't make plays off the dribble and that is what this team needs in the playoffs.

Are you frigging kidding me? Battier is the reason why we've excelled after Yao went out. Watch a few games. The box score doesn't tell the entire tale.

So him shutting down LeBron or Manu was pure coincidence? He is going up against the other team's best perimeter scorer every single night. Baskeball is a game where defensivley you can do everything right and still give up a basket (look at how teams play Tmac and he still scores). When you consitently go up against such talented players, you're not always gonna look good. Even the best defenders have bad days or players they cant stop (Tmac averages 30 points a game against Bowen, who over his career has been one of the best defenders in the NBA)

Yes they should but JVG won't admit that he has made a mistake in trying to change Head from an undersized occasional back up Spot up Shooting Guard, into a backup Point Guard Playmaker. The truth of the matter was clearly shown in the last game against Boston.

Exactly, Battier's defense cannot be overrated. Battier had a hand in Pierce's face on nearly every shot. Sometimes you just have to give credit to the opponent's offense.

ya hearing Battiers defense is overrated is really upsetting me. Battier is a top 5 defender in the league. and fits perfectly on this team.

"Rafer Alston is our only true PG - so unless we could have gotten a good pg in return - we aren't going to trade him."

That's says it all, no championship until we get a decent pg. I thought one of the main job of the pg is to dish and drive, we got one that can't neither shoot, drive, nor dish. What he does best is miss and shoot alot, bad combo...

Yeah, nah dawg, this is a knee jerk reaction to last night's loss and deep down you know that. Trade Battier? That'd be the dumbest thing we could do. We all agree with need a better back up PG or, if possible, an upgrade over Skip... but this team with Yao and Tracy is good enough to win a title.
