Texans: Carr drawing some interest from other teams

    By JOHN MCCLAIN

For the first time, the Texans admitted they have received calls from teams that are interested in acquiring quarterback David Carr.

Speculation about a possible Carr trade has been rampant since the second half of the season, but until this week, no teams had inquired about Carr’s availability.

“First, let me say that David is our starting quarterback,” general manager Rick Smith said today. “I’ve fielded some calls about some of our players, including a couple of inquiries asking whether David might be available.

“My goal is to improve our team. If doing that involves a player on our team, a player on another team, a free agent or a draft choice, then I’ll absolutely entertain it.”

Smith refused to disclose which teams have inquired about Carr. It’s no secret that a few teams have a desperate need, and some would like to bolster the position. Minnesota and Oakland are two of the most prominent.

Carr, who helped the Texans improve from 2-14 to 6-10 in Gary Kubiak’s first season as coach, has two years left on his contract.

If Carr is traded, the Texans would likely look for a veteran to compete with Sage Rosenfels. Jake Plummer, who had the best three seasons of his career when Kubiak was his offensive coordinator at Denver, is expected to be available at some point. The Broncos are hoping to get a draft choice for Plummer rather than just releasing him.

Smith and Kubiak would like to acquire extra draft choices. They also plan to be active in free agency, which begins the first week of March.

the following teams need a QB:
    oakland
    cleveland
    minnesota
    detroit
    miami
    possibly washington
    possibly chicago
    possibly baltimore
    possibly jacksonville
    maybe kansas city
    maybe tampa bay

if they do deal him, i'd prefer it not be to any teams picking ahead of them. we need quinn to go top 3.

I heard that it will be hard to trade Carr b/c of his contract. The base would have to be re-worked.

    Other teams interested in Carr?

I thought he'd exhausted all of his NCAA eligibility.

The Raiders gave up a league high 72 sacks last season. Sounds like a match made in heaven.

I can't see him going to washington, chicago, baltimore, jacksonville, KC, TB
(no doubt jason campbell is entrenched in WAS)

the other 5 are possibilities, though i alwso wouldn't expect miami

I agree that his best situation would be Minnesota if it was between Minny and Oakland. I'm gonna miss those HEB ads...

Absolutely not. 4th-5th rounder at best.

If Carr goes to the Raiders, he'll be out of the NFL in 2 years. Minn would be good and after the Super Bowl, the Bears are a possibility.

Adam Schechter on the NFL Network said the Texans are looking for a 2nd-5th round pick for Carr. I'm going to say they get a third rounder. Hmm... maybe from the Vikings.

Hope they can land another 2nd rounder, or a high 3rd rounder for Carr.

That would make drafting Kolb all the easier to pull off.

If they can get a 3rd round pick for David Carr, they need to make this trade yesterday.

Isn't that what we got from dallas for Drew Henson? And he never played a down in the NFL before that.

Are you kidding, A third round pick gets this done today!!!!!!!!

If they start getting offers it will probably start at a 5-6 round pick.

But they better jump on any offer for a 3rd

I'd throw in Toro for a 3rd round pick.

Of course, my son would never forgive me for that.
