The Rockets forum (often referred to as the "GARM", for rookies who may not know) currently only displays 20 of the latest topics before you need to go to the next page to view. In order to keep good discussions and news posts active, you need to weed out the posts that aren't so hot -- the ones made when someone had a thought and clicked "New Thread" when they should have clicked "Post Reply".

"Trade Idea" threads happen often. Some of them are well planned out and presented for solid discussion. Others are just from left field.

What I'm proposing is creating one thread -- call it "Random Trade Ideas" or something. And any thread created for a random trade idea and gets say a 2 or less in the thread rating gets merged in to that one thread.

    Any thoughts on this?

That's a terrific idea. It would clear up some of the clutter on the board, but doesn't penalize someone if they have a halfway decent idea. And only the truly stupid trade proposals get less than a two star rating.

This is a genius idea. Would go a long way in reducing the clutter in GARM.

I'd say you just ban this trade ideas threads. Most of them make no sense for the other team. All of them seem to include three players, Howard, Head, and Alston.

The ooooonly problem I see is that

Guy A posts a random trade idea in the thread.
Guy B posts a random trade idea in the thread.

Guy B's post gets 200 responses telling him how much of an idiot he is and within 10 seconds Guy A's post is way back on page 1 of 385. :D

You also maybe get into a situation where nobody knows which of the 50 original trades in the thread anyone is responding to.

Not that I care because I hate trade threads anyway, but... :)

Now a random trade forum... hehe. :)

I would much prefer a random trade generator. You click a button and a Rocket scrubb is replaced with a 2nd tier star.

I like the "proposed trade idea" forum better. They are pretty meaningless. Actual trade rumors (from an actual source) can stay in the GARM.

But whatever will make less of them is good.

Maybe there's some way to set up the BBS to look for key words: "Head," "Alston", "Howard", and "insert superstar here" in the same post and automatically delete the thread. ;)

    Just an observation...

Of the ten threads that are at the top of GARM right now (not counting the sticky on Snyder) 7 have to do with unsubstantiated trades or possible players to trade for.

I don't want to create a new forum because I don't think that forum will have near the readership of the GARM .... right now, I want all Rockets stuff to be one forum. I really haven't liked scenarios that break up the Rockets forum, but perhaps down the road. A lot of these threads do get tiring, but some are worth reading and discussing. So I feel this is a compromise.

One problem will be getting people to know that they need to rate these threads.... I'm going off the ratings if it's not blatantly obvious.

Don't worry. Once people find out that you'll move those trade threads based on rating, those posts will probably have a piranha-like atmosphere ripping into the subject via voting.

I'm actually more worried about legitimate, well-thought out trades that get voted down because they don't involve us fleecing another team. Of course, how often do we get well-thought out trades that make sense for both teams. So that's probably a moot point.

    Fire away Clutch.
