Andre Iguodala gets a little help from his friends BY JIM RUPPERT Published Sunday, June 25, 2006 The turn-away crowd at Cass Gymnasium got its money's worth Saturday afternoon, District 186 athletics got a check for $42,000 and Luther Head got a Most Valuable Player Trophy. No Allen Iverson? No Chris Webber? No Eddy Curry? No Quentin Richardson? No big deal. The Red team, led by 34 points from Iguodala's Philadelphia 76ers teammate Louis Williams and 30 from Head, won 149-147 in the second overtime. Iguodala had 47 points for the White team on the usual array of eye-popping dunks and long 3-pointers. Deron Williams, another former Illini star recruited for the game by Iguodala's old Lanphier High School teammate Rich McBride, had 37. But the big winner was the school district from which Iguodala graduated in 2002. That check for $42,000, if used wisely, can go a long way toward curing some of the things ailing the athletic programs at Springfield's three public high schools. Head had 22 of his points in the second to help the Red team recover from a 10-point deficit. He did a lot of juking and dribbling in the first three periods, but when it was time to get serious, Head made shot after shot. “Everybody wants to win,” he said. “We started out just playing around. It got competitive at the end.” Not all of the shots went in. That came as a surprise to some who paid $20 to watch. “People always think that because you’re in the NBA you’re not supposed to miss,” Head said. http://www.sj-r.com/sections/news/stories/89348.asp http://www.sj-r.com/extras/galleries/viewgallery.asp?gallery=198&Image=1
Yeah makes me feel for Head. MVP huh, he's getting better! Gonna be sweet next year if we still have him...
Maybe it's just me, but it looks like Luther's seriously muscled up since he first joined the team. Shows the quality of personal trainers and such on NBA squads.
Do NOT give up Luther. Please don't. As a rookie, he ranked top 10 in EVERY SINGLE statistical categories among his peers. DO NOT trade him away!
I bet Roy gets ranked in the top 3 in every major statistical category for rookies (pts, reb, ast, fg%, min. at least). That's something that I don't think you can say about anyone else in the class. If Luther is the price we pay for Roy then so be it. Edit: Okay. Maybe not top 3 in rebounds. But I bet he'll be top 5-10 in rebounds (and it's not like Luther was top 10 in rebounds either).
So long as we get increased value for trading Luther, I'll reluctantly accept it. It'll be tough to give up all those clutch shots he made throughout the season, though. That being said, I realize his solid play is the reason he has trade value... but still, I'd like to see the Rockets keep him.
I hate giving up players we draft. We rarely hit on any good players in the draft and when we do, we trade them away.
