Thought this was pretty funny... http://en.chinabroadcast.cn/811/2006/05/02/301@84167.htm The wax figure of the late Hong Kong singer and movie star Leslie Cheung seemed to be the most popular figure in the new Madame Tussauds Shanghai. It opened Monday at the New World Department Store on West Nanjing Road. More than 20 fans of Cheung who jumped off from a building in Hong Kong in 2003 brought along bunches of flowers for their idol. "I came here just for him. But I think his hairstyle should be refined a little," said Yang Yuqin, in her 20s. Other popular featured celebrities were Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Li Ka Shing and Bill Gates. "What makes us choose which celebrities should be in the museum is consumer feedback," said Edward Fuller, general manager of Madame Tussauds Shanghai. After asking which celebrities local people want to meet the most, the museum chose 74 figures including basketball player Yao Ming and Olympic gold medal 110-metre hurdler Liu Xiang. The exhibition area is divided up into seven themed sections: Glamour, Behind the Scenes, History and Heroes, Music, Film, Speed and Sport. "This is just the first phase of three. We will have more wax figures in the future," the manager said at the opening ceremony. Many visitors arrived long before the opening time. "We arrived early as my daughter was excited for a long time; here there are many of her idols," said a woman surnamed Ma. "But I think the price is a little high." Most visitors said the 125 yuan (US$16) price of an adult ticket was a little expensive but none of them said they had hesitated before making the purchase. Throngs of visitors meant the museum was crowded just an hour after its opening. People had to wait to shake hands with Bill Clinton, to have a hug with Brad Pitt while Angelina Jolie stood just two metres away, or to talk face-to-face with Audrey Hepburn. There are no bodyguards or entourage to get in the way unlike in real life. Madame Tussauds Shanghai is the Tussauds Group's sixth waxwork museum. There are other museums in London, Amsterdam, Las Vegas, New York and Hong Kong.
That's kind of funny, kind of wish there were a few more pictures so I could see how close the wax Yao looks to the real one.
Yao has 2 wax statues made for him. Here's the other one (still under "creation"): - PS: Some other international celebrity models in the same wax museum (Mod: feel free to delete them if you think these pics shouldn't be posted in GARM).
I don't think I offended anyone, nor did I intend to. If so, sorry, I just can't get over the new Superman trailer I just saw, it's amazing. http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/supermanreturns/trailer2/large.html
You might not have intended to offend anyone, but "chinky eyes"? Come on man...have a little more tact. "Chink" is really derogatory and considered a racial slur by most Asian people.
"chink" is much different though man. I believe that's much different than "chinky". But nevermind. Ah man, then I apologize. The way I grew up, elementary through high school, alot of people call each other racial slurs in a jokingly way, never insulting. My asian friends joke about it all the time. I've never seen anyone get mad about it. Sorry, and in the future, I will look to better use my words.
Well black people call each other the N word all the time, and if you were really cool with some, you can throw that word around them once in while and not get your a$$ whooped but definitely not something you should say around strangers.
A lot of black people use the 'N' word on each other in a jokingly way too. So do you consider it not a derogatory term? Personally I would never use that term. May be I am just more considerate than you about other people's feelings.
It's not a problem, I'm Asian and I didn't take it as an insult because you just didn't realize. Personally, I'm not a big fan of how "PC" the world has become. It's really a shame that we have to watch EVERYTHING we say nowadays. Just a heads up though for the future. There are definitely people (some on this board I bet) who'd take "chink" or "chinky" very personally.
Chink stand for Chinese not Asian. Chinese is Asian and Asian is not Chinese. So you are racist. Chinky chinky chinky chink chink. Trying to be funny?
