Thanks to Luvdablue for this nugget. It reads like a Tom Clancy novel. http://www.jetsinsider.net/forums/showthread.php?p=1163777#post1163777 Darthvader summerizes a 30 page thread of conversation by an NFL insider then there is a little more give and take.
"Like a Tom Clancy novel" but it sounds like real machinations behind the scenes of the NFL draft. The best part is the suggestion that some team may be talking about giving the Texans 3 #1's for Bush.
So according to Vescey's quotes, it would have been better if we'd been picks #2-4 rather than the #1 overall?
I don't think it is. I assume the three #1's being referred (if there is any truth at all to his claims) is SF. Both #'1 this year, their 1 next year, and their 3rd next year.
That would work according to the The numerical value for each pick. http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/features/valuechart.html
"SF loves VDavis but they have Bush number one and if he falls to two they have told loomis they will give him two ones and this yrs two and next yrs three to get him " SF doesn't have a 2 this year
When San Fran traded for that extra first round pick I started to wonder. I think if anyone is going to try and make a move up with us it's going to be them, not the Jets.
I think the value chart is quite dumb. It's so hard to put a number on the value when it doesn't account for who you are trading and who you are getting. It also doesn't account for how strong or deep the draft is. Guys that will available at #35 (McNeil, Winston, Moss, Youboty) would probably be 1st Rounders in another draft.
I still think we can get more value...Get it done...if we do trade down, we will take Mario or Vince...and get good players to build upon...
Casserly was on channel 2 last night and said the chances of a trade at this point are very unlikely. He said for something to get done, something would've had to happen by now and there has been no movement and no offers worth taking. I'd be surprised if the Texans move the pick.
hmmmm...i don't think the Texans will trade either. but draft pick trades usually happen on draft day. that makes Casserly's comments a bit suspect.
At this point, how can you believe that? He's probably saying that because he wants to increase the offers that teams have already put on the table for the #1 pick.
Really sounds like CC is asking for better offers. Like MadMax said, draft trades usually happen on the day of. Trades could still happen even after the Texans select Bush. One thing is for sure, this will be a very interesting week.
I don't think he meant that the trade should've happened already. He was just saying that they have received very few calls for the #1 pick. He said on another show that they had already heard offers for other picks, but not the #1 and that they usually hear at least a few legit offers by now even if the trades don't happen until draft day.
