Some of you who cherish history, especially American history understand that the gun has it's place...When you think of "the gun that won the west", as it was called in the late 1800's think of the henry repeating arms co., or the winchester name, that Oliver Winchester eventually changed to...

The Winchester 1894, has probably taken more deer than any other. This was grandpa's ole favorite. In .30-30 it was a classic brush gun,...who can forget the Winchester model 70 with its famous pre-64 extractor, or the ultimate Winchester Defender 12 gauge of today?....

Or, the crazy Sarah Winchester house, built because the famous Winchester label killed more people than all other gun makers combined during the time of "winning the West", and Sarah, heir to the Winchester fortune decided this was the way to appease the spirits...

Or even the famous Winchester logo?...For 140 years it was built by the American hand in New Haven, Conn., and now the era has ended...

I reflected on this as I took out my father's Winchester 1300 Defender that he left me, and pondered this change. It's business, but for some reason it just doesn't seem right...

The truth is I knew this from January, when it was announced....But for some reason the news was received as incredulous, and it was difficult to take in...But having read that it INDEED OCCURRED at the end of March of this year,...I wondered if the time was right to order a Winchester with the made in New Haven engraving while I still could, or just hang on to what I did have since the memories were of a better time...
