I don't understand JVG's substitution/playing time patterns

Swift was playing well in the 4th and then gets substituted.Swift played only 16 minutes!!! If we think we are not in the running for the playoff.JVG should play him more to assess if Swift is worth keeping. If and only if Swift is the real deal, we only have to look for a shooting guard (Redick) in the draft and never mind looking for a PF (Williams). If JVG does'nt maximize Swift 's potential and we were not able to show his true capability, we will regret it and end up drafting a PF when we should have drafted a SG.

I agree completely. JVG is stubborn  I have gove to few games and watched many others, and I don't think Swift has played that bad. He has not met the expectations that everybody had in him, but he has played ok with the time limitations and short leach JVG has on him.
I don't really understand why JVG always subs him even when he is having a decent game. It is not like JH will come back and make a big difference. Most of this season JH has been terrible. His inconsistency in contageous to the team.
I just think SS should play a lot more minutes, at least for a few games.

JVG has been a stubborn loser all year. Why should he change now?

Uhhhhh. Juwan was shooting very well, and we needed offense. If you didn't notice, Howard was 8-12 for 16 points.

I wish some of you haters would be forced to coach the Rockets for a couple of minutes since you think you're smarter than JVG. You think he hates offense? He brought Frahm in when he was desperate for some shooting. Poor dude couldn't find his square root on the floor, and was quickly yanked out before the situation got worse. We are injury-depleted, it's that simple.

Luther played 43 minutes, KB played 46 - 46! minutes. Why? His backup is Rybo. Unfortunately starter minutes are killing his offensive game too (never mind he was actually better tonight, 4-10 from the field).

I didn't notice that Swift was playing well. Brand was eating him up in the post.

True, but Brand can do that to anyone. Sto played well in the first half.

I don't think you were watching. Swift defended Brand very well - just 15 points. And most of those points were scored with Swift off the floor.

Brand was guarding by Yao, at least for half of his playtime. And Brand just shoot over him when he was guarding by Stro.

Couldn't be further from the truth. Brand shot at least 3 jumpers over Yao, and I don't recall seeing him hit a single one over Stro. In fact, he went ice cold for a stretch when Stro started to guard him.

Is Swift quick enough to cover some small forwards? He, JH, and Yao can be on the floor at the same time.

I love how no one responds to this post, even though it is true. Juwan was hitting shots and giving us some offense, and only Yao and Luther were hitting some shots as well. It was better to leave Juwan in and actually put some points on the board.

But then again, everything it JVG's fault. He is the reason no one hit any jump shots. He's the reason why everybody is injured. He actually broke Wesley's rib as well

i agree we needed offense down the stretch, at eth same time, swift isnt goin to improve unless he plays more, thre have been times we was playin realy well, and howard came in not playin well at all. if jvg wants to win, coool, but if we are officially out, then this is a good time to play on him, at least the final month

And you think this sounds like a man with a plan to win a ring.

Im tired of him lying about playing guys who give you a chance to win.

Ryan Bowen NEVER gives you a chance, and Chuck Hayes always gives a better shot than him, yet he wont play him

Someone needs to sit down with this guy and talk to him. I think his brains are used.

Swift actually showed 3 very good post moves last night. Maybe Lampe can take RB's 3 min per game and get his feet wet with the season going as it is? I'm just saying...

Now you know good and well JVG wont take Bowens minutes away.

Some lie about effort is his reason

Uhhh when JVG pulled Stro he had just scored three straight buckets and was rolling, also Stro was the only one attacking the basket. Face it Stro screwed up in signing with the rockets and a stubborn coach, JVG doesn't believe in easy baskets ie. the alleyoop play. Even Clyde Drexler said Stro needs more touches. Let's just grind it out game after game and blame it on the rockets outside shooting. I don't have the stats but I wonder if JVG's old Knicks team shot well from the outside. Shooting a basketball is more about being comfortable than anything else. It was JVG who chose Ryan Bowen's defense and insperational hustle over Scott Padgett's shooting, who'm I dearly miss now days.

yeah, JH was 8-12, with one impressive offensive reb. Then again, SS is 5-8 all within half the minutes Juwan played. Not to criticising JVG on this, just saying you can't just look at stats at this point of the season.
