what happened after mavs broke up nash and dirk? positive for both guys and their teams! wasn't rasheed portland's main guy? look at his success in detroit. ray allen to sonics? shaq to miami? what about clyde moving to houston? i still wanna wait to see mcgrady back next season, but if we ever trade him, it might not necessarily be bad for him or for the team. so i don't get why people are saying he's untouchable?

The Alcindor trade turned out good for the Bucks, too. ;)

You mean like when the Rockets traded Moses Malone and had the worst record in the league for two straight years? Or when they traded Cassell and Horry for the fat pig Barkley?

I am tired of these "Trade T-Mac" threads. Just because a player gets hurt all of a sudden people want to get rid of him. How many years did it take Kobe and Shaq before they won titles? How many years did it take Hakeem? This season has been a nightmare for all of us, Rockets fans, but there is absolutely no reason to panic. Maybe these threads wouldn't be so bad if people would come up with REALISTIC scenarios that would make the team better, but so far no dice. These guys have only been together for not even 2 season yet. Yao is only just now coming into his own, I'm really excited about this team for next season. With a healthy T-Mac and Yao becoming the dominant force he is now, with some better shooters surrounding them, this team should be a force to reckoned with in the Western Conference next year. I hardly ever rant here but I felt this needed to be said.

The same team with Cassell and Horry that got swept by Seattle in the 2nd round in 1996. The same Barkley that helped us finally beat Seattle in round 2 and take us one step closer to the NBA Finals in 1997???

We need to do this big trade. Send Howard and our lottery pick to the Clippers for Maggette. Then send Stro and whatever else we need to the Sonics for a resigned Wilcox.

Steve Nash wasn't traded, and the only reason it worked out well for the Mavericks is because they have a ridiculous stockpile of talent.

Because they are not afraid to take on big contracts as long as a pick is thrown in......

    Then they draft very well.

Why would the Clippers possibly do that. They've been pining a bunch of their hopes on Maggette coming back, so he's obviously a big part of their team. Juwan would be a SERIOUS downgrade in talent, and they make about the same money (Juwan makes about $1 mill a year less) for the same number of year. Our lottery pick isn't going to be that good, and their front office hasn't done anything really stupid in a while, so the days of fleecing the Clippers appear to be over.

Has the lottery already been held? I thought lottery meant drawing. Even the Rox have a chance to be the #1 pick in the draft if I am not mistaken, if indeed they are a lottery team. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the year we picked Yao we didn't have the worst record.

when he says "our lottery pick isn't that good" it means that should we not make the playoffs, our chances of moving up are very slim (much slimmer than they were in year yao). the %age drops off more and more as you move down..

Well obviously in this scenario, we didn't win the lottery. Right now, we've only got a 0.7% chance to win the lottery, and our chances at a top three pick is something like 2%. So no-one is expecting to get a top 3 pick right now. And if we did have a top 3 pick we'd probably just use it ourselves.

Unless we go into a freefall, our pick will probably end up between 10-14, and if we make the playoffs it'll be more like 18-20.

I don't see any reason why a team would give up a legit player for our pick.

    Per Master ice:

"the same team with Cassell and Horry that got swept by Seattle in the 2nd round in 1996. The same Barkley that helped us finally beat Seattle in round 2 and take us one step closer to the NBA Finals in 1997???"

Yeah that fat played out Barkley that came to camp 35 lb overweight. The same Barkley that disrupted our inside game and took shots away from our best player.

That same Barkley that we traded 2 very effective young players for -who are still active players.

That same Barkley who will disrespect the Rockets every chance he gets as he is on TNT as resident ass clown.

I know! :D I'm just saying, to say that "trade" worked out well for both teams is wrong because a.) there was no trade and b.) the Mavericks are unusual for the reasons you mentioned. That's why they're able to lose a player like Nash without suffering any major setbacks.

Ok, let me take this 1 by 1.

Yes, adding one of the best rebounders and scoring PFs in NBA history disrupted our inside game. I think an objective observer could see that at that point Hakeem and Barkley were about equal at that point in their careers. Hakeem's skills had just started to decline and Hakeem may have lost his hunger for a ring at that point also. Barkley was still hungry and was more than willing to carry the team on his back for that season. It just turns out that the Basketball gods were against us that year and it was Stockton and Malone's turn.

Let's see...when was the last time Sam Cassell went to the NBA Finals??? I wonder....OH it was 1995! The last time the Rockets made it. And How many teams has Cassell been on since then? Let's see, Phoenix, New Jersey, Minnesota, Los Angeles..looks like he's been traded alot since the Rockets had him.

Robert Horry owes his entire career to 3 players. Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaquille O'Neal, and Tim Duncan. Horry would not have been an effective player for the Rockets in the Post-Hakeem - Pre-Yao era. His game has always relied on an inside-out game.

Fast forward to the future...Rockets don't trade for Barkley....get swept by Seattle again in '97. They keep Horry and Cassell as a nucleus, however they don't get Steve Francis in '99, and from that you don't get possibly Yao Ming in 2002 and later Tracy McGrady. So I think it all turned out for the best. Don't you?

Barkley's job is to be an objective NBA analyst. Not a Houston Rockets homer. And objectively speaking, from the end of last season to this season, there's been alot to diss the Rockets about.

what happened after mavs broke up nash and dirk? MAVS GOT TERRY + HOWARD + GREAT FOCUS. VERY WELL RUN FRANCHISE (FINALLY...AS CUBES HAS STOPPED PLAYING ROTO-BALL).

i still wanna wait to see mcgrady back next season, but if we ever trade him, it might not necessarily be bad for him or for the team. so i don't get why people are saying he's untouchable? IN A MUTI-PLAYEDR TRADE THE TEAM THAT GETS THE BEST PLAYER GETS THE TRADE WIN.. SEE: MAGIC/McGRADY. SO, IF YOU WISH TMac TRADED YOU'D BETTER HOPE FOR SOMEONE ELSE'S SUPERSTAR...JO'N FOR EXAMPLE?
