Even the FRENCH want to drag Iran in front of the UN Security Council. If that doesn't tell you something, I don't know what does. Terror supporting countries like Iran with a truly insane leader (ok libs, go ahead and get your W jokes out of the way) must not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.

EU powers want Iran referred to UN Security Council

BERLIN (Reuters) - The European Union's three biggest powers said on Thursday talks with Iran had reached an impasse and agreed it should be hauled before the U.N. Security Council for possible sanctions because of its nuclear program.

"Our talks with Iran have reached a dead end," German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said after meeting with his British and French counterparts, Jack Straw and Philippe Douste-Blazy, and EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana.

"We believe the time has now come for the Security Council to become involved to reinforce the authority of the IAEA Resolutions," Steinmeier told reporters, referring to the International Atomic Energy Agency's board of governors.

"We will therefore be calling for an extraordinary IAEA board meeting with a view for it to take the necessary action to that end."

The "EU3", like the United States, believe Iran is developing nuclear weapons under cover of a civilian atomic energy program. Iran denies the charge, insisting its nuclear ambitions are limited to the peaceful generation of electricity.

By agreeing to refer Iran to the Security Council, the ministers signaled an end to 2-1/2 years of diplomatic efforts by the EU trio to convince the Islamic republic to abandon its uranium enrichment program.

Iran escalated its nuclear standoff with the West on Tuesday when it began removing the U.N. seals on equipment used to enrich uranium -- a process of purifying it for use as fuel in nuclear power plants or, when very highly enriched, in bombs.

Iran removed seals at three sites -- Natanz, Pars Trash and Farayand Technique. Iran has installed some 164 centrifuges -- machines that enrich uranium by spinning at supersonic speeds -- at Natanz but the diplomat said they were mostly not functional.

Rose Bowl reaction? I was on a plane during the game, so I didn't catch it. I saw the replay and how UT-Austin got a touchdown on a play where Vince's knee was down, then they ended up winning by 3 points. 'nuff said

Guess you missed the blown call where the refs took away an OBVIOUS interception by the Horns at mid field that would have DEFINITIVELY prevented a USC touchdown while the play you mentioned if overturned would simply delay the inevitable.

My hearing impaired friend as a word for your analysis:

I love the Texxx-sized pile on as much as anyone, hope the crow is as juicy as a Beevo turd...

However, I think the EU is right--I don't trust the Iranians either but this issue needs kid glove handling...hell, it needs Viable Fetus glove handling!

okay, that was sick--flame away :)

Kind of hard to think Iran with nukes is a good idea. Now stopping them will be the messy part.

I'm certain that Vince Young could resolve these issues in a peaceful way with Iran.

Vince Young's tears can disarm nuclear weapons. The problem is that Vince Young never cries.

I agree with you, texxx. I hope we can avoid military action, but Iran's current leadership is practically begging for someone to stop them. The calls for wiping Israel off the map by their President, who is, unlike his predecessor, in lock-step with the radical, fundamentalist mullahs, is not something to just blow off as rhetoric.

Look for oil prices to shoot up, with gas going through the roof. If economic sanctions include their oil production, the only real sanction that would do any good, that's what we are facing.
