    Enough already.

The identical threads and posts are countless. "We're through." "Lottery time." "I hope we lose it all this season."

    This is all rubbish.

Partly because we're just a few games away from a playoff spot. Partly because we'll soon be seeing the return of our star players. Partly because we're still a full month away from mid-season. Partly because Jeff Van Gundy has never missed the playoffs. But there's one larger reason why such viewpoints are rubbish.

    Because they're basketball players.

It's what they do. It's their career. I won't say it's their life. God, family and friends lay claim to that title.

But when they were kids, they dreamed of playing in the NBA. As they grew they fought hard to become a professional basketball player. They spent years training. Going through college. Working out. Dreaming.... of playing basketball in the NBA. And they didn't spend their whole life doing that just so they can give up on the next game on the schedule because of injured teammates.

Here's what they're gonna do: they're gonna play hard. They're gonna fight. They're gonna do everything in their power to win the possession. To win the quarter. To win the game. To win the championship. And it doesn't matter if it's Moochie Norris or Tracy McGrady - they know that their balls are to the wall and that they've got to go to work. It's what they do. Injuries don't matter. Superstars don't matter. Records don't matter. What matters is that they steal the ball. That they fight for the rebound. That they try their damnedest to sink the jumper. When they step out onto that court, everything else just melts away.

And now the harsh words. The words that might cause me to suffer repercussions from the mods. Every single one of you people who has posted about tanking the season or that we're finished is a complete and utter idiot. A moron. Yes, you. I'm calling you out. You're about as bright as Alaska in winter. You're so dense, light bends around you. You don't have enough brains to understand an entire NBA season, and you don't have enough heart to endure rough times. This is a site for Rockets fans, and if you don't understand the scope of a full NBA season then you don't fit that qualification and shouldn't be posting here. You should go somewhere else. You are disgrace to the Houston Rockets, a disgrace to this bbs, and a disgrace to Rockets fans everywhere. You should be ashamed to even consider yourself a Rockets fan.

    Tracy McGrady is not done.
    Yao Ming is not done.
    Neigher is Jeff Van Gundy
Or Jon Barry. Or Rafer Alston. Or Derek Anderson.
Or the rest of the Houston Rockets. They're not even halfway done. They're still playing. Fighting. They still have their sites set on a championship. As fans, we share that goal with them. And If you aren't sharing the same goals, then STFU.

    Thanks Drox.

    I needed that.

    I still believe.

Denver did it last year - I do not see how we cannot. When things go so wrong like this there isd bound to be a turnaround soonest. Then everything will be falling in our favor. The key is staying within 5-6 games of the 8th place team at least until Yao Comes back i.e. by end of January.

all hail the all knowing droxford

we are in the southwest division. Not only do we have to go on several 6-7 game win streaks, we have to hope the grizzlies cool off and miss the playoffs.

as a rox fan i hope we make the playoffs, but the reality the season is over.

I'm not quite as pessimistic as you are at this point, but I'm getting there. As another poster put it, "The season isn't over til the clock reads 0:00 in the fourth quarter in the 82nd game."

That being said, this team needs to string some wins together in a big hurry. They know this, of course... but it's still true.

It doesn't matter if the grizz make the playoffs. They're clearly a playoff caliber team and they will be there. There are still plenty of teams from the other two divisions who could fall out, like the warriors and timberwolves. Lots of teams out west are hovering around .500.

    I agreed and I believe.

But is giving up a season really that bad? I am not saying our players should give it up but it could be a good management decision to give a change to our young players to develop their game, get a higher draft and get well prepaired for the next season. I just don't believe the Spurs can be taht bad after Robinson went down. It could be the best decision from the the Spurs management.

Nice try, but so far as I've heard, there's no equivalent to Tim Duncan in the forthcoming draft. You make a good point as to the potential value of tanking a season, but that only holds up if there's an absolute stud waiting in the wings. So far as I know, that isn't the case this time around.

I'm with you droxford. People always use the excuse that they are simply being realist but in reality they are confusing pessimism with realism. True fans are neither but instead believe with all their heart that it is never over until it is mathematically impossible to achieve that goal.

I think that of all the teams that are currently outside of playoff position we have the best chance of stringing some wins together and stirring up the standings. And if you take our record with both Tmac and Yao in the lineup i would say the chances are not too bad of making it back up into playoff position.

Entirely possible. Not likely the way things are going, but then, that's why they play the games: you never can tell what might happen.
