Ugh ..My dad ....still beaing myself up right now trying to figure something out

My dad makes good money and he is the type that, whenever he needs something, he just goes and gets it. Plus, his habit of returning gifts after Xmas and birthdays is the stuff that legends are made off.

In fact, last year, my brother bought him a gift, but instead of wrapping it, he just wrapped the receipt and gave him that instead.

Anyway, my dads hobbies and tastes change from day to day. He is a big Cowboys fan, but we've exhausted all Cowboy gear the last few years.

He likes golf, but doesn't have time to play anymore (he spends all his spare time with my son).

He doesn't have time to read or watch movies.

My mother and he do like to go to Lousiana and gamble from time to time. Though about a gift card to one of the casinos, but they get comped almost every time they go anyway.

Ugh ..........

For me it's my dad as well.

He's one of those guys that just doesn't need much, and doesn't like to throw away money on things he can do without. When my mom goes shopping, he will just look at a receipt and say "look at all this sh-t...$100 worth of candles? Dammit woman..."

He's really quiet too and doesn't express his interests clearly at all, if and when he actually has any. I've been thinking for a while now about what to get him and keep coming up with nothing. I even told him I didn't know what to get him when we had dinner last night, and he still gave me NOTHING to go on. So, I spent about 2 hours at Wal-Mart last night getting random things to finish up my shopping and I left without finding one damn thing for that guy. I even had my sister with me, and she came up empty too.

The man is impossible to get a gift vibe from.

This is what my dad does too. In fact, I can ask him directly and he'll say "I don't need anything, just put that money in your savings".

asshole

Sounds like he would like something with your son as the theme. Grandfather/Grandson outing, photo, etc. If he is big into savings, he might enjoy a contribution to your son's college fund on his behalf.

Wow...

Dad's are easy. Moms are hard.

Go into any electronic store and find something your dad doesn't have.

For your mom, by a nice, steaming glass of "shut the f*** up!"

Same here. He has a history of buying himself things around October/November that we all had in the back of our minds as potential Christmas gifts.

I try to get him something creative/goofy that will keep his attention for at least a few weeks, and I usually shop at places that he doesn't know of. It definitely is a little bit stressful.

i could get my dad anything and he'd be happy...my mom on the other hand - i always have to check my gifts with her before i even give them - even if they were on her damn list, she still will return something because of the color (of a CD case) or any other minor adjustment. basically, i shop for my mom with my mom.

My dad is also really, really tough to shop for... he has no real hobbies any more, works all week and then chills on the couch watching Sci-Fi on the weekends... Also has money, so anything he needs, he can go out and get and it'll probably be better than what I can afford to get him...

This year at the last minute I decided to go into Spec's and buy a pair of Diamond Crown cigars for us to chill on the patio and smoke together... seemed to like it...
