On TNT just now CB said that the T-Wolves needed to trade KG and start over. What do you guys think? I'm not brave enough to start a stupid trade thread in the GARM So I'll start one here. KG - 18M for Swift 5M Wesley 4.95M (expiring) Moochie 4.2M (expiring) Head 998K rights to V-Span 3 #1 picks Back to Back to Back to Back Champs but salary cap hell for Les. I think they might get a better offer though...
I just hope Cuban doesn't get wind of this (he is, after all, boycotting Charles/Kenny and TNT). Dallas has better young talent to trade, along with the better players with decent-sized contracts (Stackhouse, Dampier, Van Horn, Nowitzki) in order to make the trade work. Frankly, Charles sees a lot of himself in Garnett when Charles was struggling with the 76ers. I bet he feels Garnett getting to the right team will do the same for him (and that team) that it did when he won the MVP in Phoenix in 92-93 (and that team got to the finals).
I think it's more in the line of KG needs to be traded for KG's sake. The Wolves have done nothing to give KG the help he needs. He even took a 9M paycut so the Wolves could have more to spend last summer, that resulted in Marko Jaric and Rashad McCants.
i'm pretty sure they can too. if you want to come up with trades you have to think like the twolves. what would they want in return? cap space, young players, an allstar, lots of picks... i would suggest that the following teams could make offers: ATL - marvin williams, childress, harrington, picks. CHI - tim thomas (ending contract), hinrich, deng, picks. DAL - dirk, daniels. LAL - odom, kwame, picks. ORL - howard, hill. KG has a trade kicker so i would assume that we would not accept any trade to a bad team.
My trade suggestions was only half serious. If the kicker is true then he will certainly veto a trade to a bad team so only the LAL are a good option from what you posted. KG + Kobe sounds like a good combo, but not as good as KG + T-Mac + Yao. Imagine the Yao in the low post & KG in the high post - or vis versa. Killer!! You can't double with a big guy!
I was actually considering starting a thread on this very topic in the GARM when I heard Charles' comments, but opted not to since there have already been numerous in the past year.
I would too for the following reasons... 1) KG fits JVG's system. He wants big guys to come up and defend the perimeter. KG is the best big in the game to do that. And he can do pretty much anything JVG wants him to. 2) It will free Yao. JVG does not know how to utilize Yao properly. Maybe he will come across a coach suited to his game. IMO, this works for everyone. Although, Rockets would bypass Yao's huge potential. But as long as JVG is the coach, that potential is not going ot be realized anyways.
The only case against a trade for Garnett is the age. After these first 7 games, it's pretty obvious that Yao is what he is. He will never be great. McGrady is a very old 26 years. He only has 4 or 5 years left at top 5 level. If you're the Rockets, that's a deal you have to make if it presents itself. You can't wait around for Yao to get it together because it's not going to happen. Even if he goes out and drops 59 points on the Spurs tonite, he's going to score less than 20 and be in foul trouble in atleast one of these upcoming games. He is what he is and there's no changing that at this point in his 4th year. Some may misinterpret my post as advocating trading Yao as if we NEED to trade Yao, similar to Francis. That's not the case at all. I am very happy with Yao and think we can win a championship with him. The point is that if you have an opportunity to get a Kevin Garnett - a bonafide top 3 player - then you have to do it. Les would never do it though.
I am all for this trade. T-Mac and KG combo will be more dangerous than T-mac and Yao combo; KG will get his much deserved help; not playing for JVG will be the best thing that could happen to Yao.
dallas won't trade dirk for KG. i could see a trade of devin harris, howard, and van horn for garnett.
I'd do that in a hearbeat. Though I think it would have to be a three way deal involving Goldenstate.
Because Yao is chinese chances of trading him for KG is 0% but if Yao wasnt chinese chances of trading for KG 100% Yao is maded bigger than he really is as a basketball player because he's CHINESE with his marketing.
I'm a big fan of Yao but even I would trade him for KG in a heartbeat. I'm not sure if that is such a great trade for the Wolves, though. KG is easily one of the top 5 players in the league. Yao, as he is, is probably only top 10 at best.
I would also, but the only reason I would stop and hesitate is that Yao is sooo young and KG already has 10+ years on his body...
