I recently switched from RoadRunner to EarthLink Cable. Everything works fine except I am not getting an EarthLink IP (which means I can not read their Usenet news group server). I see the following from a DOS command prompt:

    Code:
    C:\>tracert bbs.clutchfans.net

    Tracing route to bbs.clutchfans.net [69.93.203.181]

I know that RoadRunner as required by some ruling or another has to share broadband backbone with EarthLink. TWC did the installation, to no surprise. Both EarthLink and RoadRunner/TWC have been less than helpful in resolving the issue.

The more that I think about it the more I wonder how RoadRunner is smart enough to give my cable modem a EarthLink IP (versus a RoadRunner IP). It would not surprise me if I am just stuck with a RoadRunner IP.

Could someone with Earthlink Cable run the above tracert and see what IP they are getting served?

    thanks,
    NW

I dont remember my exact subnet ip at this moment...but when I et home for lunch Ill run a check and let you know.

but....iirc...my ip starts with 24.xxx.xxx.xxx....like yours does.

btw...you arent missing anything not being able to access their newsservers....they suck badly.

    horrible retention...horrible completeness.

I was betting that EarthLink had to be better than RR. RR has trouble retaining anything over a weekend and it is like they drop their supplying new feed periodically so that 10% of their multi-attachment posts are missing pieces.

EarthLink ate Netcom, who used to have great newsfeeds. Go figure.

Earthlink cable is Roadrunner in Houston at least. There is no difference whatsoever. Same network, same BS. :(
