According to the NY Post, Chris Webber, the free-agent-to-be the Knicks (and the rest of the NBA)covet, revealed last night that not only does he like New York, he likes it so much he's lived there the past two summers. That's right. Webber, the superstar power forward who would be the final piece to the Knicks' championship puzzle, said he's spent about two months each of the past two summers living in various places in the New York area. Latrell Sprewell, Webber's buddy from Golden State, has been lobbying for the Knicks to get Webber since preseason. Webber said recently he'd love to win a championship with Spree...

If C-Webb really likes the Big Apple, then the Rockets would be left with alot of cap money and no where to spend it. I say sign Mo,Shannon,Moochie and draft well in the upcoming draft.

What do you guys think the Rockets should do?

I never thought our chances were that good to begin with. However, strange things happen with the Rockets org. and they seem to surprise and pull off miracle acquisitions fairly regularly.

Who knows!

I think the Rockets need to have a solid plan "B" in the event Webber signs with the Knicks (or some team other than the Rockets).

I think many of us (including myself) are setting ourselves up for disappointment regarding Webber. Sometimes I think it is a given that we will get him. So this article has brought me back down to earth. I agree that he would be the ideal free agent acquisition. However, the Rockets have to be prepared to go after someone else in the event that Webber signs elsewhere.

Which other free agents would they pursue? Jackson from Golden State? If Webber signs elsewhere than we need to resign Mo quickly so he does not get away. Reading oeilperes post about Shareef. What would the Rockets package to try and get him?

Oh well. If Chris comes great. If not than. Well lets not think that way!!!

What kind of cap space does NY have? Seems like they are already loaded with talent. I think if he doesn't stay with Sac, he will go to the highest bidder.

If C-Webb does end up in the Big Apple, it would have to be in a sign-&-trade. N.Y. doesn't have cap room.

It would require a sign-&-trade deal with whom ever C-Webb ends up with. He would probably want Sac-town to receive something in return for him. Do I hear Cato's name?

Yes, and the hard thing for NY is, they will assuredly have to give up Houston or Spree. Giving up Spree is counterproductive due to him being a HUGE reason Webber would come in the fist place. The Knicks are adamant about keeping Houston as well.

Would the Kings take LJ, Ward, or some other combination? Doubt it. Tis an interesting and complicated plot. Stay tuned!

I'd be very happy keeping the team in place, including Dream, and adding a Marc Jackson type player.

I don't want Webber if he doesn't want to be here. Let's say he comes here then asks to be traded when NYK can give him $$$.

I agree with Gascon.

I want them signed, but I don't want them eating up ALL the cap room. If nothing else, they can be trade bait if their contracts aren't too bloated(Maloney *cough cough* Wizard *cough cough* Cato). This team needs a shake up, if they want to be serious contenders.

I read a few days ago that Vanhorn was toast in New Jersey after this season. Rudy has always liked tall white guys who can shoot from the outside. If the Rockets options in the summer are slim (don't sign Webber) then a Vanhorn trade would not be to bad. He would fit in with our guard oriented offense.
He doesn't rebound well, but then our guards are the leaders in our team in rebounding.

Van Horn is a fine rebounder. He gets 7/game this season which is far from spectacular but better than Mo Taylor. Last season he had 8.5 rpg and I think the drop is due to a change in the personnel.

Don't let one article get you all knotted up. We all already knew Webber wants to play for NY. This isn't new. But he still has to deal with salary cap realities, which will dictate that if he wants the max, he probably can't play for NY. I don't think he'll pout for the next 7 years because he has to play in another city which is perfectly fine in its own right, just not NY. My personal prediction is he stays in Sac.

Yeah, so Webber lived in NYC the last two offseasons. Antonio McDyess lives in Houston but that didn't seem to help us sign him.

Allen Houston can opt out of his contract so I doubt he would go to Sac w/o opting out. Let's see, free agent or crap team, hmmm. Camby would have to be a part of that deal. But who else?

I think this is a NY paper blowing smoke up its own arse. Think about how many players "spend time" in Houston in the offseason. You could put together a few rings w/ those players.

I think the Rockets had best plan on getting along without Webber; he seems to have his hat set for The Big Apple, though I have a hard time imagining how they would get him.

Houston would seem to be more in the driver's seat in that regard. We'll see. I would just hate to see us put all of our eggs in that basket and have it knocked out of our hand by Webber going elsewhere.

Maybe we should save our money for Marc Jackson and some other young bull. Acquire Shareef or Van Horn by trade to shore up the 3 and book Mookie and Mo.

I can take or leave Shandon. Both he and Cato, by their play, seem to want to be elsewhere so good riddance.

I'd love to see the Rockets pick up Battier for the 3 and the big kid from Carolina for the 5.
